HYMN CLXXXI. AŚVINS


कदुkadu परेष्टाविषांpreṣṭāviṣāṃ रयीणामध्वर्यन्ताrayīṇāmadhvaryantā यदुन्निनीथोपामyadunninīthoapām |

अयंayaṃ वांvāṃ यज्ञोyajño अक्र्तakṛta परशस्तिंpraśastiṃ वसुधितीvasudhitī अविताराavitārā जनानामjanānām ||

WHAT, dearest Pair, is this in strength and riches that ye as Priests are bring from the waters?
This sacrifice is your glorification, ye who protect mankind and give them treasures.
1.181.1

आā वामश्वासःvāmaśvāsaḥ शुचयःśucayaḥ पयस्पाpayaspā वातरंहसोvātaraṃhaso दिव्यासोdivyāso अत्याःatyāḥ |

मनोजुवोmanojuvo वर्षणोvṛṣaṇo वीतप्र्ष्ठाvītapṛṣṭhā एहeha सवराजोsvarājo अश्विनावहन्तुaśvināvahantu ||

May your pure steeds, rain-drinkers, bring you hither, swift as the tempest, your celestial coursers,
Rapid as thought, with fair backs, full of vigour, resplendent in their native light, O Aśvins.
1.181.2

आā वांvāṃ रथो.अवनिर्नratho.avanirna परवत्वानpravatvān सर्प्रवन्धुरःsṛpravandhuraḥ सुवितायsuvitāya गम्याःghamyāḥ |

वर्ष्णvṛṣṇa सथाताराsthātārā मनसोmanaso जवीयानहम्पूर्वोjavīyānahampūrvo यजतोधिष्ण्याyajatodhiṣṇyā यःyaḥ ||

Your car is like a torrent rushing downward: may it come nigh, broad-seated, for our welfare,—
Car holy, strong, that ever would be foremost, thought-swift, which ye, for whom we long, have mounted.
1.181.3

इहेहiheha जाताjātā समवावशीतामरेपसाsamavāvaśītāmarepasā तन्वाtanvā नामभिःnāmabhiḥ सवैःsvaiḥ |

जिष्णुर्वामन्यःjiṣṇurvāmanyaḥ सुमखस्यsumakhasya सूरिर्दिवोsūrirdivo अन्यःanyaḥ सुभगःsubhaghaḥ पुत्रputra ऊहेūhe ||

Here sprung to life, they both have sung together, with bodies free from stain, with signs that mark them;
One of you Prince of Sacrifice, the Victor, the other counts as Heaven's auspicious offspring.
1.181.4

परpra वांvāṃ निचेरुःniceruḥ ककुहोkakuho वशाननुvaśānanu पिशङगरूपःpiśaṅgharūpaḥ सदनानिsadanāni गम्याःghamyāḥ |

हरीharī अन्यस्यanyasya पीपयन्तpīpayanta वाजैर्मथ्राvājairmathrā रजांस्यश्विनाrajāṃsyaśvinā विvi घोषैःghoṣaiḥ ||

May your car-seat, down-gliding, golden-coloured, according to your wish approach our dwellings.
Men shall feed full the bay steeds of the other, and, Aśvins they with roars shall stir the regions.
1.181.5

परpra वांvāṃ शरद्वानśaradvān वर्षभोvṛṣabho नna निष्षाटniṣṣāṭ पूर्वीरिषश्चरतिpūrvīriṣaścarati मध्वmadhva इष्णनiṣṇan |

एवैरन्यस्यevairanyasya पीपयन्तpīpayanta वाजैर्वेषन्तीरूर्ध्वाvājairveṣantīrūrdhvā नद्योnadyo नna आगुःāghuḥ ||

Forth comes your strong Bull like a cloud of autumn, sending abundant food of liquid sweetness.
Let them feed with the other's ways and vigour: the upper streams have come and do us service.
1.181.6

असर्जिasarji वांvāṃ सथविराsthavirā वेधसाvedhasā गीर्बाळ्हेghīrbāḷhe अश्विनाaśvinā तरेधाtredhā कषरन्तीkṣarantī |

उपस्तुताववतंupastutāvavataṃ नाधमानंnādhamānaṃ यामन्नयामञ्छ्र्णुतंyāmannayāmañchṛṇutaṃ हवंhavaṃ मेme ||

Your constant song hath been sent forth, Disposers! that flows threefold in mighty strength, O Aśvins.
Thus lauded, give the suppliant protection moving or resting hear mine invocation.
1.181.7

उतuta सयाsyā वांvāṃ रुशतोruśato वप्ससोvapsaso गीस्त्रिबर्हिषिghīstribarhiṣi सदसिsadasi पिन्वतेनॄनpinvatenṝn |

वर्षाvṛṣā वांvāṃ मेघोmegho वर्षणाvṛṣaṇā पीपायpīpāya गोर्नghorna सेकेseke मनुषोदशस्यनmanuṣodaśasyan ||

This song of bright contents for you is swelling in the men's hall where three-fold grass is ready.
Your strong rain-cloud, ye Mighty Ones, hath swollen, honouring men as ’twere with milk's outpouring.
1.181.8

युवांyuvāṃ पूषेवाश्विनाpūṣevāśvinā पुरन्धिरग्निमुषांpurandhiraghnimuṣāṃ नna जरतेjarate हविष्मानhaviṣmān |

हुवेhuve यदyad वांvāṃ वरिवस्याvarivasyā गर्णानोghṛṇāno वि...vi... ||

The prudent worshipper, like Pūṣan, Aśvins! praises you as he praises Dawn and Agni,
When, singing with devotion, he invokes you. May we find strengthening food in full abundance.
