सेमामविड्ढिsemāmaviḍḍhi परभ्र्तिंprabhṛtiṃ यya ईशिषे.अयाīśiṣe.ayā विधेमvidhema नवयाnavayā महाmahā गिराghirā |

यथाyathā नोno मीढ्वानmīḍhvān सतवतेstavate सखाsakhā तवtava बर्हस्पतेसीषधःbṛhaspatesīṣadhaḥ सोतsota नोno मतिमmatim ||
BE pleased with this our offering, thou who art the Lord; we will adore thee with this new and mighty song.
As this thy friend, our liberal patron, praises thee, do thou, Bṛhaspati, fulfil our hearts' desire.
2.24.1
योyo नन्त्वान्यनमनnantvānyanaman नयोजसोतादर्दर्मन्युनाnyojasotādardarmanyunā शम्बराणिśambarāṇi विvi |

पराच्यावयदच्युताprācyāvayadacyutā बरह्मणसbrahmaṇas पतिराpatirā चाविशदcāviśad वसुमन्तंvasumantaṃ विvi पर्वतमparvatam ||
He who with might bowed down the things that should be bowed, and in his fury rent the holds of Śambara:
Who overthrew what shook not, Brahmaṇaspati,—he made his way within the mountain stored with wealth.
2.24.2
तदtad देवानांdevānāṃ देवतमायdevatamāya कर्त्वमश्रथ्ननkartvamaśrathnan दर्ळ्हाव्रदन्तdṛḷhāvradanta वीळिताvīḷitā |

उदud गाghā आजदभिनदājadabhinad बरह्मणाbrahmaṇā वलमगूहतvalamaghūhat तमोtamo वयचक्षयतvyacakṣayat सवःsvaḥ ||
That was a great deed for the Godliest of the Gods: strong things were loosened and the firmly fixed gave way.
He drave the kine forth and cleft Vala through by prayer, dispelled the darkness and displayed the light of heaven.
2.24.3
अश्मास्यमवतंaśmāsyamavataṃ बरह्मणसbrahmaṇas पतिर्मधुधारमभिpatirmadhudhāramabhi यमोजसात्र्णतyamojasātṛṇat |

तमेवtameva विश्वेviśve पपिरेpapire सवर्द्र्शोsvardṛśo बहुbahu साकंsākaṃ सिसिचुरुत्समुद्रिणमsisicurutsamudriṇam ||
The well with mouth of stone that poured a flood of meath, which Brahmaṇaspati hath opened with his might—
All they who see the light have drunk their fill thereat: together they have made the watery fount flow forth.
2.24.4
सनाsanā ताtā काkā चिदcid भुवनाbhuvanā भवीत्वाbhavītvā माद्भिःmādbhiḥ शरद्भिर्दुरोśaradbhirduro वरन्तvaranta वःvaḥ |

अयतन्ताayatantā चरतोcarato अन्यद-अन्यदिदanyad-anyadid यya चकारcakāra वयुनाvayunā बरह्मणसbrahmaṇas पतिःpatiḥ ||
Ancient will be those creatures, whatsoe’er they be; with moons, with autumns, doors unclose themselves to you.
Effortless they pass on to perfect this and that, appointed works which Brahmaṇaspati ordained.
2.24.5
अभिनक्षन्तोabhinakṣanto अभिabhi येye तमानशुर्निधिंtamānaśurnidhiṃ पणीनांpaṇīnāṃ परमंगुहाparamaṃghuhā हितमhitam |

तेte विद्वांसःvidvāṃsaḥ परतिचक्ष्यान्र्ताpraticakṣyānṛtā पुनर्यतpunaryata उायनuāyan तदुदीयुराविशमtadudīyurāviśam ||
They who with much endeavour searching round obtained the Paṇis’ noblest treasure hidden in the cave,—
Those sages, having marked the falsehoods, turned them back whence they had come, and sought again to enter in.
2.24.6
रतावानःṛtāvānaḥ परतिचक्ष्यान्र्ताpraticakṣyānṛtā पुनरातpunarāta आā तस्थुःtasthuḥ कवयोkavayo महसmahas पथःpathaḥ |

तेte बाहुभ्यांbāhubhyāṃ धमितमग्निमश्मनिdhamitamaghnimaśmani नकिःnakiḥ षोṣo अस्त्यरणोastyaraṇo जहुर्हिjahurhi तमtam ||
The pious ones when they had seen the falsehoods turned them back, the sages stood again upon the lofty ways.
Cast down with both their arms upon the rock they left the kindled fire, and said, No enemy is he.
2.24.7
रतज्येनṛtajyena कषिप्रेणkṣipreṇa बरह्मणसbrahmaṇas पतिर्यत्रpatiryatra वष्टिvaṣṭi परpra तदश्नोतिtadaśnoti धन्वनाdhanvanā |

तस्यtasya साध्वीरिषवोsādhvīriṣavo याभिरस्यतिyābhirasyati नर्चक्षसोnṛcakṣaso दर्शयेdṛśaye कर्णयोनयःkarṇayonayaḥ ||
With his swift bow, strung truly, Brahmaṇaspati reaches the mark whate’er it be that he desires.
Excellent are the arrows wherewithal he shoots, keen-eyed to look on men and springing from his ear.
2.24.8
सsa संनयःsaṃnayaḥ सsa विनयःvinayaḥ पुरोहितःpurohitaḥ सsa सुष्टुतःsuṣṭutaḥ सsa युधिब्रह्मणसyudhibrahmaṇas पतिःpatiḥ |

चाक्ष्मोcākṣmo यदyad वाजंvājaṃ भरतेbharate मतीmatī धनादितdhanādit सूर्यस्तपतिsūryastapati तप्यतुर्व्र्थाtapyaturvṛthā ||
He brings together and he parts, the great High Priest; extolled is he, in battle Brahmaṇaspati.
When, gracious, for the hymn he brings forth food and wealth, the glowing Sun untroubled sends forth fervent heat.
2.24.9
विभुvibhu परभुprabhu परथमंprathamaṃ मेहनावतोmehanāvato बर्हस्पतेःbṛhaspateḥ सुविदत्राणिsuvidatrāṇi राध्याrādhyā |

इमाimā सातानिsātāni वेन्यस्यvenyasya वाजिनोvājino येनyena जनाjanā उभयेubhaye भुञ्जतेbhuñjate विशःviśaḥ ||
First and preeminent, excelling all besides are the kind gifts of liberal Bṛhaspati.
These are the boons of him the Strong who should be loved, whereby both classes and the people have delight.
2.24.10
यो.अवरेyo.avare वर्जनेvṛjane विश्वथाviśvathā विभुर्महामुvibhurmahāmu रण्वःraṇvaḥ शवसाśavasā ववक्षिथvavakṣitha |

सsa देवोdevo देवानdevān परतिprati पप्रथेpaprathe पर्थुpṛthu विश्वेदुviśvedu तापरिभूर्ब्रह्मणसtāparibhūrbrahmaṇas पतिःpatiḥ ||
Thou who in every way supreme in earthly power, rejoicing, by thy mighty strength hast waxen great,—
He is the God spread forth in breadth against the Gods: he, Brahmaṇaspati, encompasseth this All.
2.24.11
विश्वंviśvaṃ सत्यंsatyaṃ मघवानाmaghavānā युवोरिदापश्चनyuvoridāpaścana परpra मिनन्तिminanti वरतंvrataṃ वामvām |

अछेन्द्राब्रह्मणस्पतीachendrābrahmaṇaspatī हविर्नो.अन्नंhavirno.annaṃ युजेवyujeva वाजिनाvājinā जिगातमjighātam ||
From you, twain Maghavans, all truth proceedeth: even the waters break not your commandment.
Come to us, Brahmaṇaspati and Indra, to our oblation like yoked steeds to fodder.
2.24.12
उताशिष्ठाutāśiṣṭhā अनुanu शर्ण्वन्तिśṛṇvanti वह्नयःvahnayaḥ सभेयोsabheyo विप्रोvipro भरतेbharate मतीmatī धनाdhanā |

वीळुद्वेषाvīḷudveṣā अनुanu वशvaśa रणमाददिःṛṇamādadiḥ सsa हha वाजीvājī समिथेsamithe बरह्मणसbrahmaṇas पतिःpatiḥ ||
The sacrificial flames most swiftly hear the call: the priest of the assembly gaineth wealth for hymns.
Hating the stern, remitting at his will the debt, strong in the shock of fight is Brahmaṇaspati.
2.24.13
बरह्मणसbrahmaṇas पतेरभवदpaterabhavad यथावशंyathāvaśaṃ सत्योsatyo मन्युर्महिmanyurmahi कर्माकरिष्यतःkarmākariṣyataḥ |

योyo गाghā उदाजतudājat सsa दिवेdive विvi चाभजनcābhajan महीवmahīva रीतिःrītiḥ शवसासरतśavasāsarat पर्थकpṛthak ||
The wrath of Brahmaṇaspati according to his will had full effect when he would do a mighty deed.
The kine he drave forth and distributed to heaven, even as a copious flood with strength flows sundry ways.
2.24.14
बरह्मणसbrahmaṇas पतेpate सुयमस्यsuyamasya विश्वहाviśvahā रायःrāyaḥ सयामsyāma रथ्योrathyo वयस्वतःvayasvataḥ |

वीरेषुvīreṣu वीरानुपvīrānupa परंधिpṛṃdhi नस्त्वंnastvaṃ यदीशानोyadīśāno बरह्मणाbrahmaṇā वेषिveṣi मेme हवमhavam ||
O Brahmaṇaspati, may we be evermore masters of wealth well-guided, full of vital strength.
Heroes on heroes send abundantly to us, when thou omnipotent through prayer seekest my call.
2.24.15
बरह्मणसbrahmaṇas पतेpate तवमस्यtvamasya ...... ||
O Brahmaṇaspati, be thou controller of this our hymn, and prosper thou our children.
All that the Gods regard with love is blessed. Loud may we speak, with heroes, in assembly.
