HYMN XIV. AGNI.


परत्यpraty अग्निरaghnir उषसोuṣaso जातवेदाjātavedā अख्यदakhyad देवोdevo रोचमानाrocamānā महोभिःmahobhiḥ |

आā नासत्योरुगायाnāsatyorughāyā रथेनेमंrathenemaṃ यज्ञमyajñam उपupa नोno यातमyātam अछacha ||

THE God hath looked, even Agni Jātavedas, to meet the Dawns refulgent in their glories.
Come on your chariot, ye who travel widely, come to this sacrifice of ours, Nāsatyas.
4.14.1

ऊर्ध्वंūrdhvaṃ केतुंketuṃ सविताsavitā देवोdevo अश्रेजaśrej जयोतिरjyotir विश्वस्मैviśvasmai भुवनायbhuvanāya कर्ण्वनkṛṇvan |

आप्राāprā दयावाप्र्थिवीdyāvāpṛthivī अन्तरिक्षंantarikṣaṃ विvi सूर्योsūryo रश्मिभिशraśmibhiś चेकितानःcekitānaḥ ||

Producing light for all the world of creatures, God Savitar hath raised aloft his banner.
Making his presence known by sunbeams, Sūrya hath filled the firmament and earth and heaven.
4.14.2

आवहन्त्यāvahanty अरुणीरaruṇīr जयोतिषागानjyotiṣāghān महीmahī चित्राcitrā रश्मिभिशraśmibhiś चेकितानाcekitānā |

परबोधयन्तीprabodhayantī सुवितायsuvitāya देव्यdevy उषाuṣā ईयतेīyate सुयुजाsuyujā रथेनrathena ||

Red Dawn is come, riding with brightness onward, distinguished by her beams, gay-hued and mighty.
Dawn on her nobly-harnessed car, the Goddess, awaking men to happiness, approacheth.
4.14.3

आā वांvāṃ वहिष्ठाvahiṣṭhā इहiha तेte वहन्तुvahantu रथाrathā अश्वासaśvāsa उषसोuṣaso वयुष्टौvyuṣṭau |

इमेime हिhi वामvām मधुपेयायmadhupeyāya सोमाsomā अस्मिनasmin यज्ञेyajñe वर्षणाvṛṣaṇā मादयेथामmādayethām ||

May those most powerful steeds and chariot bring you, O Aśvins, hither at the break of morning.
Here for your draught of meath are Soma juices: at this our sacrifice rejoice, ye Mighty.
4.14.4

अनायतोanāyato अनिबद्धःanibaddhaḥ कथायंkathāyaṃ नयङङnyaṅṅ उत्तानोuttāno ऽव'va पद्यतेpadyate नna |

कयाkayā यातिyāti स्वधयाsvadhayā कोko ददर्शdadarśa दिवःdivaḥ स्कम्भःskambhaḥ समृतःsamṛtaḥ पातिpāti नाकम्nākam ||

How is it that, unbound and unsupported, he falleth not although directed downward?
By what self-power moves he? Who hath seen it? He guards the vault of heaven, a close-set pillar?
