HYMN XXI. AGNI.


मनुष्वतmanuṣvat तवाtvā निni धीमहिdhīmahi मनुष्वतmanuṣvat समsam इधीमहिidhīmahi |

अग्नेaghne मनुष्वदmanuṣvad अङगिरोaṅghiro देवानdevān देवयतेdevayate यजyaja ||

WE stablish thee as Manus used, as Manus used we kindle thee.
Like Manus, for the pious man , Aṅgiras, Agni, worship Gods.
5.21.1

तवंtvaṃ हिhi मानुषेmānuṣe जनेjane ऽगने'ghne सुप्रीतsuprīta इध्यसेidhyase |

सरुचसsrucas तवाtvā यन्त्यyanty आनुषकānuṣak सुजातsujāta सर्पिरासुतेsarpirāsute ||

For well, O Agni, art thou pleased when thou art kindled mid mankind.
Straight go the ladles unto thee, thou highborn God whose food is oil.
5.21.2

तवांtvāṃ विश्वेviśve सजोषसोsajoṣaso देवासोdevāso दूतमdūtam अक्रतakrata |

सपर्यन्तसsaparyantas तवाtvā कवेkave यज्ञेषुyajñeṣu देवमdevam ईळतेīḷate ||

Thee have all Gods of one accord established as their messenger.
Serving at sacrifices men adore thee as a God, O Sage.
5.21.3

देवंdevaṃ वोvo देवयज्ययाग्निमdevayajyayāghnim ईळीतīḷīta मर्त्यःmartyaḥ |

समिद्धःsamiddhaḥ शुक्रśukra दीदिह्यdīdihy रतस्यṛtasya योनिमyonim आसदःāsadaḥ ससस्यsasasya योनिमyonim आसदःāsadaḥ ||

Let mortal man adore your God, Agni, with worship due to Gods.
Shine forth enkindled, Radiant One. Sit in the chamber of the Law, sit in the chamber of the food.
