HYMN XXII INDRA.


पिबाpibā सोममिन्द्रsomamindra मन्दतुmandatu तवाtvā यंyaṃ तेte सुषावsuṣāva हर्यश्वाद्रिःharyaśvādriḥ |

सोतुर्बाहुभ्यांsoturbāhubhyāṃ सुयतोsuyato नार्वाnārvā ||

DRINK Soma, Lord of Bays, and let it cheer thee: Indra, the stone, like a well guided courser,
Directed by the presser's arms hath pressed it.
7.22.1

यस्तेyaste मदोmado युज्यश्चारुरस्तिyujyaścārurasti येनyena वर्त्राणिvṛtrāṇi हर्यश्वharyaśva हंसिhaṃsi |

सsa तवामिन्द्रtvāmindra परभूवसोprabhūvaso ममत्तुmamattu ||

So let the draught of joy, thy dear companion, by which, O Lord of Bays, thou slayest foemen,
Delight thee, Indra, Lord of princely treasures.
7.22.2

बोधाbodhā सुsu मेme मघवनmaghavan वाचमेमांvācamemāṃ यांyāṃ तेte वसिष्ठोvasiṣṭho अर्चतिप्रशस्तिमarcatipraśastim |

इमाimā बरह्मbrahma सधमादेsadhamāde जुषस्वjuṣasva ||

Mark closely, Maghavan, the words I utter, this eulogy recited by Vasiṣṭha:
Accept the prayers I offer at thy banquet.
7.22.3

शरुधीśrudhī हवंhavaṃ विपिपानस्याद्रेर्बोधाvipipānasyādrerbodhā विप्रस्यार्चतोviprasyārcato मनीषामmanīṣām |

कर्ष्वाkṛṣvā दुवांस्यन्तमाduvāṃsyantamā सचेमाsacemā ||

Hear thou the call of the juice-drinking press-stone: hear thou the Brahman's hymn who sings and lauds thee.
Take to thine inmost self these adorations.
7.22.4

नna तेte गिरोghiro अपिapi मर्ष्येmṛṣye तुरस्यturasya नna सुष्टुतिमसुर्यस्यsuṣṭutimasuryasya विद्वानvidvān |

सदाsadā तेte नामnāma सवयशोsvayaśo विवक्मिvivakmi ||

I know and ne’er forget the hymns and praises of thee, the Conqueror, and thy strength immortal.
Thy name I ever utter. Self-Refulgent
7.22.5

भूरिbhūri हिhi तेte सवनाsavanā मानुषेषुmānuṣeṣu भूरिbhūri मनीषीmanīṣī हवतेhavate तवामितtvāmit |

मारेmāre अस्मनasman मघवञmaghavañ जयोकjyok कःkaḥ ||

Among mankind many are thy libations, and many a time the pious sageinvokes thee.
O Maghavan, be not long distant from us.
7.22.6

तुभ्येदिमाtubhyedimā सवनाsavanā शूरśūra विश्वाviśvā तुभ्यंtubhyaṃ बरह्माणिbrahmāṇi वर्धनाvardhanā कर्णोमिkṛṇomi |

तवंtvaṃ नर्भिर्हव्योnṛbhirhavyo विश्वधासिviśvadhāsi ||

All these libations are for thee, O Hero: to thee I offer these my prayers. that strengthen.
Ever, in every place, must men invoke thee.
7.22.7

नूnū चिनcin नुnu तेte मन्यमानस्यmanyamānasya दस्मोदश्नुवन्तिdasmodaśnuvanti महिमानमुग्रmahimānamughra |

नna वीर्यमिन्द्रvīryamindra तेte नna राधःrādhaḥ ||

Never do men attain, O Wonder-Worker, thy greatness, Mighty One, who must be lauded,
Nor, Indra, thine heroic power and bounty.
7.22.8

येye चca पूर्वpūrva रषयोṛṣayo येye चca नूत्नाnūtnā इन्द्रindra बरह्माणिbrahmāṇi जनयन्तjanayanta विप्राःviprāḥ |

अस्मेasme तेte सन्तुsantu सख्याsakhyā शिवानिśivāni यूयंyūyaṃ पातpāta ...... ||

Among all Ṛṣis, Indra, old and recent, who have engendered hymns as sacred singers,
Even with us be thine auspicious friendships. Ye Gods, preserve us evermore with blessings.
