HYMN XLIX. WATERS.


समुद्रज्येष्ठाःsamudrajyeṣṭhāḥ सलिलस्यsalilasya मध्यातmadhyāt पुनानाpunānā यन्त्यनिविशमानाःyantyaniviśamānāḥ |

इन्द्रोindro याyā वज्रीvajrī वर्षभोvṛṣabho ररादrarāda ताtā आपोāpo देवीरिहमामवन्तुdevīrihamāmavantu ||

FORTH from the middle of the flood the Waters-their chief the Sea-flow cleansing, never sleeping.
Indra, the Bull, the Thunderer, dug their channels: here let those Waters, Goddesses, protect me.
7.49.1

याyā आपोāpo दिव्याdivyā उतuta वाvā सरवन्तिsravanti खनित्रिमाkhanitrimā उतuta वाvā याःyāḥ सवयंजाःsvayaṃjāḥ |

समुद्रार्थाsamudrārthā याःyāḥ शुचयःśucayaḥ पावकास्ताpāvakāstā आपोāpo .... .. ||

Waters which come from heaven, or those that wander dug from the earth, or flowing free by nature,
Bright, purifying, speeding to the Ocean, here let those Waters. Goddesses, protect me.
7.49.2

यासांyāsāṃ राजाrājā वरुणोvaruṇo यातिyāti मध्येmadhye सत्यान्र्तेsatyānṛte अवपश्यञavapaśyañ जनानामjanānām |

मधुश्चुतःmadhuścutaḥ शुचयोśucayo याःyāḥ पावकास्ताpāvakāstā आपोāpo ...... ||

Those amid whom goes Varuṇa the Sovran, he who discriminates men's truth and falsehood-
Distilling meath, the bright, the purifying, here let those Waters, Goddesses, protect me.
7.49.3

यासुyāsu राजाrājā वरुणोvaruṇo यासुyāsu सोमोsomo विश्वेviśve देवाdevā यासूर्जंyāsūrjaṃ मदन्तिmadanti |

वैश्वानरोvaiśvānaro यास्वग्निःyāsvaghniḥ परविष्टस्ताpraviṣṭastā आपोāpo ...... ||

They from whom Varuṇa the King, and Soma, and all the Deities drink strength and vigour,
They into whom Vaiśvānara Agni entered, here let those Waters, Goddesses, protect Me.
