कस्यkasya नूनंnūnaṃ कतमस्याम्र्तानांkatamasyāmṛtānāṃ मनामहेmanāmahe चारुcāru देवस्यdevasya नामnāma |

कोko नोno मह्याmahyā अदितयेaditaye पुनर्दातpunardāt पितरंpitaraṃ चca दर्शेयंdṛśeyaṃ मातरंmātaraṃ चca ||
WHO now is he, what God among Immortals, of whose auspicious name we may bethink us?
Who shall to mighty Aditi restore us, that I may see my Father and my Mother?
1.24.1
अग्नेर्वयंaghnervayaṃ परथमस्याम्र्तानांprathamasyāmṛtānāṃ मनामहेmanāmahe चारुcāru देवस्यdevasya नामnāma |

सsa नोno मह्याmahyā अदितयेaditaye पुनर्दातpunardāt पितरंpitaraṃ चca दर्शेयंdṛśeyaṃ मातरंmātaraṃ चca ||
Agni the God the first among the Immortals,—of his auspicious name let us bethink us.
He shall to mighty Aditi restore us, that I may see my Father and my Mother.
1.24.2
अभिabhi तवाtvā देवdeva सवितरीशानंsavitarīśānaṃ वार्याणामvāryāṇām |

सदावनsadāvan भागमीमहेbhāghamīmahe ||
To thee, O Savitar, the Lord of precious things, who helpest us
Continually, for our share we come—
1.24.3
यश्चिदyaścid धिdhi तta इत्थाitthā भगःbhaghaḥ शशमानःśaśamānaḥ पुराpurā निदःnidaḥ |

अद्वेषोadveṣo हस्तयोर्दधेhastayordadhe ||
Wealth, highly lauded ere reproach hath fallen on it, which is laid,
Free from all hatred, in thy hands
1.24.4
भगभक्तस्यbhaghabhaktasya तेte वयमुदशेमvayamudaśema तवावसाtavāvasā |

मूर्धानंmūrdhānaṃ रायrāya आरभेārabhe ||
Through thy protection may we come to even the height of affluence
Which Bhaga hath dealt out to us.
1.24.5
नहिnahi तेte कषत्रंkṣatraṃ नna सहोsaho नna मन्युंmanyuṃ वयश्चनामीvayaścanāmī पतयन्तpatayanta आपुःāpuḥ |

नेमाnemā आपोāpo अनिमिषंanimiṣaṃ चरन्तीर्नcarantīrna येye वातस्यvātasya परमिनन्त्यभ्वमpraminantyabhvam ||
Ne’er have those birds that fly through air attained to thy high dominion or thy might or spirit;
Nor these the waters that flow on for ever, nor hills, abaters of the wind's wild fury.
1.24.6
अबुध्नेabudhne राजाrājā वरुणोvaruṇo वनस्योर्ध्वंvanasyordhvaṃ सतूपंstūpaṃ ददतेdadate पूतदक्षःpūtadakṣaḥ |

नीचीनाnīcīnā सथुरुपरिsthurupari बुध्नbudhna एषामस्मेeṣāmasme अन्तर्निहिताःकेतवःantarnihitāḥketavaḥ सयुःsyuḥ ||
Varuṇa, King, of hallowed might, sustaineth erect the Tree's stem in the baseless region.
Its rays, whose root is high above, stream downward. Deep may they sink within us, and be hidden.
1.24.7
उरुंuruṃ हिhi राजाrājā वरुणश्चकारvaruṇaścakāra सूर्यायsūryāya पन्थामन्वेतवाpanthāmanvetavā उu |

अपदेapade पादाpādā परतिधातवे.अकरुतापवक्ताpratidhātave.akarutāpavaktā हर्दयाविधश्चितhṛdayāvidhaścit ||
King Varuṇa hath made a spacious pathway, a pathway for the Sun wherein to travel.
Where no way was he made him set his footstep, and warned afar whate’er afflicts the spirit.
1.24.8
शतंśataṃ तेte राजनrājan भिषजःbhiṣajaḥ सहस्रमुर्वीsahasramurvī गभीराghabhīrā सुमतिषsumatiṣ टेṭe अस्तुastu |

बाधस्वbādhasva दूरेdūre निरतिंnirtiṃ पराचैःparācaiḥ कर्तंkṛtaṃ चिदेनःcidenaḥ परpra मुमुग्ध्यस्मतmumughdhyasmat ||
A hundred balms are thine, O King, a thousand; deep and wide-reaching also be thy favours.
Far from us, far away drive thou Destruction. Put from us e’en the sin we have committed.
1.24.9
अमीamī यya रक्षाṛkṣā निहितासnihitāsa उच्चाuccā नक्तंnaktaṃ दद्र्श्रेdadṛśre कुहkuha चिदcid दिवेयुःdiveyuḥ |

अदब्धानिadabdhāni वरुणस्यvaruṇasya वरतानिvratāni विचाकशच्चन्द्रमाvicākaśaccandramā नक्तमेतिnaktameti ||
Whither by day depart the constellations that shine at night, set high in heaven above us?
Varuṇa's holy laws remain unweakened, and through the night the Moon moves on in splendor
1.24.10
ततtat तवाtvā यामिyāmi बरह्मणाbrahmaṇā वन्दमानस्तदाvandamānastadā शास्तेśāste यजमानोyajamāno हविर्भिःhavirbhiḥ |

अहेळमानोaheḷamāno वरुणेहvaruṇeha बोध्युरुशंसbodhyuruśaṃsa माmā नna आयुःप्रāyuḥpra मोषीःmoṣīḥ ||
I ask this of thee with my prayer adoring; thy worshipper craves this with his oblation.
Varuṇa, stay thou here and be not angry; steal not our life from us, O thou Wide-Ruler.
1.24.11
तदिनtadin नक्तंnaktaṃ तदtad दिवाdivā मह्यमाहुस्तदयंmahyamāhustadayaṃ केतोketo हर्दhṛda आā विvi चष्टेcaṣṭe |

शुनःशेपोśunaḥśepo यमह्वदyamahvad गर्भीतःghṛbhītaḥ सोso अस्मानasmān राजाrājā वरुणोvaruṇo मुमोक्तुmumoktu ||
Nightly and daily this one thing they tell me, this too the thought of mine own heart repeateth.
May he to whom prayed fettered Śunaḥśepa, may he the Sovran Varuṇa release us.
1.24.12
शुनःशेपोśunaḥśepo हयह्वदhyahvad गर्भीतस्त्रिष्वादित्यंghṛbhītastriṣvādityaṃ दरुपदेषुdrupadeṣu बद्धःbaddhaḥ |

अवैनंavainaṃ राजाrājā वरुणःvaruṇaḥ सस्र्ज्यादsasṛjyād विद्वानदब्धोvidvānadabdho विvi मुमोक्तुmumoktu पाशानpāśān ||
Bound to three pillars captured Śunaḥśepa thus to the Āditya made his supplication.
Him may the Sovran Varuṇa deliver, wise, ne’er deceived, loosen the bonds that bind him.
1.24.13
अवava तेte हेळोheḷo वरुणvaruṇa नमोभिरवnamobhirava यज्ञेभिरीमहेyajñebhirīmahe हविर्भिःhavirbhiḥ |

कषयन्नस्मभ्यमसुरkṣayannasmabhyamasura परचेताpracetā राजन्नेनांसिrājannenāṃsi शिश्रथःśiśrathaḥ कर्तानिkṛtāni ||
With bending down, oblations, sacrifices, O Varuṇa, we deprecate thine anger:
Wise Asura, thou King of wide dominion, loosen the bonds of sins by us committed.
1.24.14
उदुत्तमंuduttamaṃ वरुणvaruṇa पाशमस्मदवाधमंpāśamasmadavādhamaṃ विvi मध्यमंmadhyamaṃ शरथायśrathāya |

अथाathā वयमादित्यvayamāditya वरतेvrate तवानागसोtavānāghaso अदितयेaditaye सयामsyāma ||
Loosen the bonds, O Varuṇa, that hold me, loosen the bonds above, between, and under.
So in thy holy law may we made sinless belong to Aditi, O thou Āditya.
