HYMN XLVI. AŚVINS.


एषोeṣo उषाuṣā अपूर्व्यapūrvya वयुछतिvyuchati परियाpriyā दिवःdivaḥ |

सतुषेstuṣe वामश्विनाvāmaśvinā बर्हतbṛhat ||

Now Morning with her earliest light shines forth, dear Daughter of the Sky:
High, Aśvins, I extol your praise,
1.46.1

याyā दस्राdasrā सिन्धुमातराsindhumātarā मनोतराmanotarā रयीणामrayīṇām |

धियाdhiyā देवाdevā वसुविदाvasuvidā ||

Sons of the Sea, mighty to save discoverers of riches, ye
Gods with deep thought who find out wealth.
1.46.2

वच्यन्तेvacyante वांvāṃ ककुहासोkakuhāso जूर्णायामधिjūrṇāyāmadhi विष्टपिviṣṭapi |

यदyad वांरथोvāṃratho विभिषvibhiṣ पतातpatāt ||

Your giant coursers hasten on over the region all in flames,
When your car flies with winged steeds.

हविषाhaviṣā जारोjāro अपांapāṃ पिपर्तिpiparti पपुरिर्नराpapurirnarā |

पिताpitā कुटस्यkuṭasya चर्षणिःcarṣaṇiḥ ||

He, liberal, lover of the flood, Lord of the House, the vigilant,
Chiefs! with oblations feeds you full.
1.46.4

आदारोādāro वांvāṃ मतीनांmatīnāṃ नासत्याnāsatyā मतवचसाmatavacasā |

पातंpātaṃ सोमस्यsomasya धर्ष्णुयाdhṛṣṇuyā ||

Ye have regard unto our hymns, Nāsatyas, thinking of our words:
Drink boldly of the Soma juice.

याyā नःnaḥ पीपरदश्विनाpīparadaśvinā जयोतिष्मतीjyotiṣmatī तमस्तिरःtamastiraḥ |

तामस्मेtāmasme रासाथामिषमrāsāthāmiṣam ||

Vouchsafe to us, O Aśvin Pair, such strength as, with attendant light,
May through the darkness carry us.
1.46.6

आā नोno नावाnāvā मतीनांmatīnāṃ यातंyātaṃ पारायpārāya गन्तवेghantave |

युञ्जाथामश्विनाyuñjāthāmaśvinā रथमratham ||

Come in the ship of these our hymns to bear you to the hither shore
O Aśvins, harness ye the car.
1.46.7

अरित्रंaritraṃ वांvāṃ दिवसdivas पर्थुpṛthu तीर्थेtīrthe सिन्धूनांsindhūnāṃ रथःrathaḥ |

धियाdhiyā युयुज्रyuyujra इन्दवःindavaḥ ||

The heaven's wide vessel is your own on the flood's shore your chariot waits
Drops, with the hymn, have been prepared.
1.46.8

दिवसdivas कण्वासkaṇvāsa इन्दवोindavo वसुvasu सिन्धूनांsindhūnāṃ पदेpade |

सवंsvaṃ वव्रिंvavriṃ कुहkuha धित्सथःdhitsathaḥ ||

Kaṇvas, the drops are in the heaven; the wealth is at the waters' place:
Where will ye manifest your form?
1.46.9

अभूदुabhūdu भाbhā उu अंशवेaṃśave हिरण्यंhiraṇyaṃ परतिprati सूर्यःsūryaḥ |

वयख्यज्जिह्वयासितःvyakhyajjihvayāsitaḥ ||

Light came to lighten up the branch, the Sun appeared as it were gold:
And with its tongue shone forth the dark.
1.46.10

अभूदुabhūdu पारमेतवेpārametave पन्थाpanthā रतय्सṛtaysa साधुयाsādhuyā |

अदर्शिadarśi विvi सरुतिर्दिवःsrutirdivaḥ ||

The path of sacrifice was made to travel to the farther goal:
The road of heaven was manifest.
1.46.11

तत-तदिदश्विनोरवोtat-tadidaśvinoravo जरिताjaritā परतिprati भूषतिbhūṣati |

मदेmade सोमस्यपिप्रतोःsomasyapipratoḥ ||

The singer of their praise awaits whatever grace the Aśvins give,
who save when Soma gladdens them.
1.46.12

वावसानाvāvasānā विवस्वतिvivasvati सोमस्यsomasya पीत्याpītyā गिराghirā |

मनुष्वच्छम्भूाmanuṣvacchambhūā गतमghatam ||

Ye dwellers with Vivasvān come, auspicious, as to Manu erst;
come to the Soma and our praise.
1.46.13

युवोरुषाyuvoruṣā अनुanu शरियंśriyaṃ परिज्मनोरुपाचरतparijmanorupācarat |

रताṛtā वनथोvanatho अक्तुभिःaktubhiḥ ||

O circumambient Aśvins, Dawn follows the brightness of your way:
Approve with beams our solemn rites.

उभाubhā पिबतमश्विनोभाpibatamaśvinobhā नःnaḥ शर्मśarma यछतमyachatam |

अविद्रियाभिरूतिभिःavidriyābhirūtibhiḥ ||

Drink ye of our libations, grant protection, O ye Aśvins Twain,
With aids which none may interrupt.
