HYMN VI. INDRA.


युञ्जन्तिyuñjanti बरध्नमरुषंbradhnamaruṣaṃ चरन्तंcarantaṃ परिpari तस्थुषःtasthuṣaḥ |

रोचन्तेरोचनाrocanterocanā दिविdivi ||

They who stand round him as he moves harness the bright, the ruddy Steed
The lights are shining in the sky.
1.6.1

युञ्जन्त्यस्यyuñjantyasya काम्याkāmyā हरीharī विपक्षसाvipakṣasā रथेrathe |

शोणाśoṇā धर्ष्णूdhṛṣṇū नर्वाहसाnṛvāhasā ||

On both sides to the car they yoke the two bay coursers dear to him,
Bold, tawny, bearers of the Chief.
1.6.2

केतुंketuṃ कर्ण्वन्नकेतवेkṛṇvannaketave पेशोpeśo मर्याmaryā अपेशसेapeśase |

समुषद्भिरजायथाःsamuṣadbhirajāyathāḥ ||

Thou, making light where no light was, and form, O men: where form was not,
Wast born together with the Dawns.
1.6.3

आदहādaha सवधामनुsvadhāmanu पुनर्गर्भत्वमेरिरेpunargharbhatvamerire |

दधानाdadhānā नामयज्ञियमnāmayajñiyam ||

Thereafter they, as is their wont, threw off the state of babes unborn,
Assuming sacrificial names.
1.6.4

वीळुvīḷu चिदारुजत्नुभिर्गुहाcidārujatnubhirghuhā चिदिन्द्रcidindra वह्निभिःvahnibhiḥ |

अविन्दavinda उस्रियाusriyā अनुanu ||

Thou, Indra, with the Tempest-Gods, the breakers down of what is firm,
Foundest the kine even in the cave.
1.6.5

देवयन्तोdevayanto यथाyathā मतिमछाmatimachā विदद्वसुंvidadvasuṃ गिरःghiraḥ |

महामनूषतmahāmanūṣata शरुतमśrutam ||

Worshipping even as they list, singers laud him who findeth wealth,
The far-renowned, the mighty One.
1.6.6

इन्द्रेणindreṇa संsaṃ हिhi दर्क्षसेdṛkṣase संजग्मानोsaṃjaghmāno अबिभ्युषाabibhyuṣā |

मन्दूmandū समानवर्चसाsamānavarcasā ||

Mayest thou verily be seen coming by fearless Indra's side:
Both joyous, equal in your sheen.
1.6.7

अनवद्यैरभिद्युभिर्मखःanavadyairabhidyubhirmakhaḥ सहस्वदर्चतिsahasvadarcati |

गणैरिन्द्रस्यghaṇairindrasya काम्यैःkāmyaiḥ ||

With Indra's well beloved hosts, the blameless, hastening to heaven,
The sacrificer cries aloud.
1.6.8

अतःataḥ परिज्मन्नाparijmannā गहिghahi दिवोdivo वाvā रोचनादधिrocanādadhi |

समस्मिन्न्र्ञ्जतेsamasminnṛñjate गिरःghiraḥ ||

Come from this place, O Wanderer, or downward from the light of heaven:
Our songs of praise all yearn for this.
1.6.9

इतोito वाvā सातिमीमहेsātimīmahe दिवोdivo वाvā पार्थिवादधिpārthivādadhi |

इन्द्रंindraṃ महोवाmahovā रजसःrajasaḥ ||

Indra we seek to give us help, from here, from heaven above the earth,
Or from the spacious firmament.
