HYMN LXVIII. AGNI.


शरीणन्नुपśrīṇannupa सथादsthād दिवंdivaṃ भुरण्युbhuraṇyu सथातुश्चरथमक्तून्व्यूर्णोतsthātuścarathamaktūnvyūrṇot |

परिpari यदेषामेकोyadeṣāmeko विश्वेषांviśveṣāṃ भुवदbhuvad देवोdevo देवानांdevānāṃ महित्वाmahitvā ||

COMMINGLING, restless, he ascends the sky, unveiling nights and all that stands or moves,
As he the sole God is preeminent in greatness among all these other Gods.
1.68.1

आदितādit तेte विश्वेviśve करतुंkratuṃ जुषन्तjuṣanta शुष्कादśuṣkād यदyad देवdeva जीवोjīvo जनिष्ठाःjaniṣṭhāḥ |

भजन्तbhajanta विश्वेviśve देवत्वंdevatvaṃ नामnāma रतंṛtaṃ सपन्तोsapanto अम्र्तमेवैःamṛtamevaiḥ ||

All men are joyful in thy power, O God, that living from the dry wood thou art born.
All truly share thy Godhead while they keep, in their accustomed ways, eternal Law.
1.68.2

रतस्यṛtasya परेषाpreṣā रतस्यṛtasya धीतिर्विश्वायुर्विश्वेdhītirviśvāyurviśve अपांसिapāṃsi चक्रुःcakruḥ |

यस्तुभ्यंyastubhyaṃ दाशादdāśād योyo वाvā तेte शिक्षातśikṣāt तस्मैtasmai चिकित्वान्रयिंcikitvānrayiṃ दयस्वdayasva ||

Strong is the thought of Law, the Law's behest; all works have they performed; he quickens all.
Whoso will bring oblation, gifts to thee, to him, bethinking thee, vouchsafe thou wealth.
1.68.3

होताhotā निषत्तोniṣatto मनोरपत्येmanorapatye सsa चिनcin नवासांnvāsāṃ पतीpatī रयीणामrayīṇām |

इछन्तichanta रेतोreto मिथस्तनूषुmithastanūṣu संsaṃ जानतjānata सवैर्दक्षैरमूराःsvairdakṣairamūrāḥ ||

Seated as Priest with Manu's progeny, of all these treasures he alone is Lord.
Men yearn for children to prolong their line, and are not disappointed in their hope.
1.68.4

पितुर्नpiturna पुत्राःputrāḥ करतुंkratuṃ जुषन्तjuṣanta शरोषनśroṣan येye अस्यasya शासंśāsaṃ तुरासःturāsaḥ |

विvi रायrāya और्णोदaurṇod दुरःduraḥ पुरुक्षुःpurukṣuḥ पिपेशpipeśa नाकंnākaṃ सत्र्भिर्दमूनाःstṛbhirdamūnāḥ ||

Eagerly they who hear his word fulfil his wish as sons obey their sire's behest.
He, rich in food, unbars his wealth like doors: he, the House-Friend, hath decked heaven's vault with stars.
