मरुतोmaruto यस्यyasya हिhi कषयेkṣaye पाथाpāthā दिवोdivo विमहसःvimahasaḥ |

सsa सुगोपातमोsughopātamo जनःjanaḥ ||
THE best of guardians hath that man within whose dwelling place ye drink,
O Maruts, giants of the sky.

यज्ञैर्वाyajñairvā यज्ञवाहसोyajñavāhaso विप्रस्यviprasya वाvā मतीनामmatīnām |

मरुतःmarutaḥ शर्णुताśṛṇutā हवमhavam ||
Honoured with sacrifice or with the worship of the sages’ hymns,
O Maruts, listen to the call.

उतuta वाvā यस्यyasya वाजिनो.अनुvājino.anu विप्रमतक्षतvipramatakṣata |

सsa गन्ताghantā गोमतिव्रजेghomativraje ||
Yea, the strong man to whom ye have vouchsafed to give a sage, shall move
Into a stable rich in kine.

अस्यasya वीरस्यvīrasya बर्हिषिbarhiṣi सुतःsutaḥ सोमोsomo दिविष्टिषुdiviṣṭiṣu |

उक्थंukthaṃ मदश्चmadaśca शस्यतेśasyate ||
Upon this hero's sacred grass Soma is poured in daily rites:
Praise and delight are sung aloud.

अस्यasya शरोषन्त्वाśroṣantvā भुवोbhuvo विश्वाviśvā यश्चर्षणीरभिyaścarṣaṇīrabhi |

सूरंsūraṃ चितcit सस्रुषीरिषःsasruṣīriṣaḥ ||
Let the strong Maruts hear him, him surpassing all men: strength be his
That reaches even to the Sun.

पूर्वीभिर्हिpūrvībhirhi ददाशिमdadāśima शरद्भिर्मरुतोśaradbhirmaruto वयमvayam |

अवोभिश्चर्षणीनामavobhiścarṣaṇīnām ||
For, through the swift Gods’ loving help, in many an autumn, Maruts, we
Have offered up our sacrifice.

सुभगःsubhaghaḥ सsa परयज्यवोprayajyavo मरुतोmaruto अस्तुastu मर्त्यःmartyaḥ |

यस्यyasya परयांसिपर्षथprayāṃsiparṣatha ||
Fortunate shall that mortal be, O Maruts most adorable,
Whose offerings ye bear away.
1.86.7
शशमानस्यśaśamānasya वाvā नरःnaraḥ सवेदस्यsvedasya सत्यशवसःsatyaśavasaḥ |

विदाvidā कामस्यवेनतःkāmasyavenataḥ ||
O Heroes truly strong, ye know the toil of him who sings your praise,
The heart's desire of him who loves.
1.86.8
यूयंyūyaṃ ततtat सत्यशवसsatyaśavasa आविषāviṣ कर्तkarta महित्वनाmahitvanā |

विध्यताvidhyatā विद्युताvidyutā रक्षःrakṣaḥ ||
O ye of true strength, make this thing manifest by your greatness: strike
The demon with your thunderbolt.

गूहताghūhatā गुह्यंghuhyaṃ तमोtamo विvi यातyāta विश्वमत्रिणमviśvamatriṇam |

जयोतिषjyotiṣ कर्ताkartā यदुश्मसिyaduśmasi ||
Conceal the horrid darkness, drive far from us each devouring fiend.
Create the light for which we long.
