HYMN CI. VIŚVEDEVAS.


उदud बुध्यध्वंbudhyadhvaṃ समनसःsamanasaḥ सखायःsakhāyaḥ समग्निमिन्ध्वंsamaghnimindhvaṃ बहवःसनीळाःbahavaḥsanīḷāḥ |

दधिक्रामग्निमुषसंdadhikrāmaghnimuṣasaṃ चca देवीमिन्द्रावतोऽवसेdevīmindrāvato'vase निni हवयेhvaye वःvaḥ ||

WAKE with one mind, my friends, and kindle Agni, ye who are many and who dwell together.
Agni and Dadhikrās and Dawn the Goddess, you, Gods with Indra, I call down to help us.
10.101.1

मन्द्राmandrā कर्णुध्वंkṛṇudhvaṃ धियdhiya आā तनुध्वंtanudhvaṃ नावमरित्रपरणींक्र्णुध्वमnāvamaritraparaṇīṃkṛṇudhvam |

इष्क्र्णुध्वमायुधारंiṣkṛṇudhvamāyudhāraṃ कर्णुध्वंkṛṇudhvaṃ पराञ्चंयज्ञंprāñcaṃyajñaṃ परpra णयताṇayatā सखायःsakhāyaḥ ||

Make pleasant hymns, spin out your songs and praises: build ye a ship equipped with oars for transport.
Prepare the implements, make all things ready, and let the sacrifice, my friends, go forward.
10.101.2

युनक्तyunakta सीराsīrā विvi युगाyughā तनुध्वंtanudhvaṃ कर्तेkṛte योनौyonau वपतेहvapateha बीजमbījam |

गिराghirā चca शरुष्टिःśruṣṭiḥ शभराśabharā असनasan नोno नेदीयnedīya इतit सर्ण्यःपक्वमेयातsṛṇyaḥpakvameyāt ||

Lay on the yokes, and fasten well the traces: formed is the furrow, sow the seed within it.
Through song may we find bearing fraught with plenty: near to the ripened grain approach the sickle.
10.101.3

सीराsīrā युञ्जन्तिyuñjanti कवयोkavayo युगाyughā विvi तन्वतेtanvate पर्थकpṛthak |

धीरादेवेषुdhīrādeveṣu सुम्नयाsumnayā ||

Wise, through desire of bliss from Gods, the skilful bind the traces fast, And lay the yokes on either side.
10.101.4

निराहावानnirāhāvān कर्णोतनkṛṇotana संsaṃ वरत्राvaratrā दधातनdadhātana |

सिञ्चामहावतमुद्रिणंsiñcāmahāavatamudriṇaṃ वयंvayaṃ सुषेकमनुपक्षितमsuṣekamanupakṣitam ||

Arrange the buckets in their place securely fasten on the straps.
We will pour forth the well that hath a copious stream, fair-flowing well that never fails.
10.101.5

इष्क्र्ताहावमवतंiṣkṛtāhāvamavataṃ सुवरत्रंsuvaratraṃ सुषेचनमsuṣecanam |

उद्रिणंudriṇaṃ सिञ्चेक्षितमsiñceakṣitam ||

I pour the water from the well with pails prepared and goodly straps,
Unfailing, full, with plenteous stream.
10.101.6

परीणीताश्वानprīṇītāśvān हितंhitaṃ जयाथjayātha सवस्तिवाहंsvastivāhaṃ रथमित्क्र्णुध्वमrathamitkṛṇudhvam |

दरोणाहावमवतमश्मचक्रमंसत्रकोशंसिञ्चताdroṇāhāvamavatamaśmacakramaṃsatrakośaṃsiñcatā नर्पाणमnṛpāṇam ||

Refresh the horses, win the prize before you: equip a chariot fraught with happy fortune.
Pour forth the well with stone wheel, wooden buckets, the drink of heroes, with the trough for armour.
10.101.7

वरजंvrajaṃ कर्णुध्वंkṛṇudhvaṃ सsa हिhi वोvo नर्पाणोnṛpāṇo वर्मvarma सीव्यध्वंsīvyadhvaṃ बहुलाप्र्थूनिbahulāpṛthūni |

पुरःpuraḥ कर्णुध्वमायसीरध्र्ष्टाkṛṇudhvamāyasīradhṛṣṭā माmā वःvaḥ सुस्रोच्चमसोsusroccamaso दरंहताdṛṃhatā तमtam ||

Prepare the cow-stall, for there drink your heroes: stitch ye the coats of armour, wide and many.
Make iron forts, secure from all assailants let not your pitcher leak: stay it securely.
10.101.8

आā वोvo धियंdhiyaṃ यज्ञियांyajñiyāṃ वर्तvarta ऊतयेūtaye देवाdevā देवींdevīṃ यजतांयज्ञियामिहyajatāṃyajñiyāmiha |

साsā नोno दुहीयदduhīyad यवसेवyavaseva गत्वीghatvī सहस्रधारापयसाsahasradhārāpayasā महीmahī गौःghauḥ ||

Hither, for help, I turn the holy heavenly mind of you the Holy Gods, that longs for sacrifice.
May it pour milk for us, even as a stately cow who, having sought the pasture, yields a thousand streams.
10.101.9

आā तूtū षिञ्चṣiñca हरिमींharimīṃ दरोरुपस्थेdrorupasthe वाशीभिस्तक्षताश्मन्मयीभिःvāśībhistakṣatāśmanmayībhiḥ |

परिpari षवजध्वंṣvajadhvaṃ दशdaśa कक्ष्याभिरुभेkakṣyābhirubhe धुरौdhurau परतिprati वह्निंvahniṃ युनक्तyunakta ||

Pour golden juice within the wooden vessel: with stone-made axes fashion ye and form it.
Embrace and compass it with tenfold girdle, and to both chariot-poles attach the car-horse.
10.101.10

उभेubhe धुरौdhurau वह्निरापिब्दमानो.अन्तर्योनेवvahnirāpibdamāno.antaryoneva चरतिcarati दविजानिःdvijāniḥ |

वनस्पतिंvanaspatiṃ वनvana आस्थापयध्वंāsthāpayadhvaṃ निni षूṣū दधिध्वमखनन्तdadhidhvamakhananta उत्समutsam ||

Between both poles the car-horse goes pressed closely, as in his dwelling moves the doubly-wedded.
Lay in the wood the Soviran of the Forest, and sink the well although ye do not dig it.
10.101.11

कप्र्नkapṛn नरःnaraḥ कप्र्थमुदkapṛthamud दधातनdadhātana चोदयतcodayata खुदतवाजसातयेkhudatavājasātaye |

निष्टिग्र्यःniṣṭighryaḥ पुत्रमाputramā चयावयोतयcyāvayotaya इन्द्रंसबाधindraṃsabādha इहiha सोमपीतयेsomapītaye ||

Indra is he, O men, who gives us happiness: sport, urge the giver of delight to win us strength
Bring quickly down, O priests, hither to give us aid, to drink the Soma, Indra Son of Nistigri.
