HYMN CX. ĀPRĪS.


समिद्धोsamiddho अद्यadya मनुषोmanuṣo दुरोणेduroṇe देवोdevo देवानdevān यजसिyajasi जातवेदःjātavedaḥ |

आā चca वहvaha मित्रमहश्चिकित्वानmitramahaścikitvān तवंtvaṃ दूतःdūtaḥ कविरसिप्रचेताःkavirasipracetāḥ ||

THOU in the house of man this day enkindled worshippest Gods as God, O Jātavedas.
Observant, bright as Mitra, bring them hither: thou art a sapient and foreknowing envoy.
10.110.1

तनूनपातtanūnapāt पथpatha रतस्यṛtasya यानानyānān मध्वाmadhvā समञ्जनsamañjan सवदयासुजिह्वsvadayāsujihva |

मन्मानिmanmāni धीभिरुतdhībhiruta यज्ञंyajñaṃ रन्धनṛndhan देवत्राdevatrā चक्र्णुह्यध्वरंcakṛṇuhyadhvaraṃ नःnaḥ ||

Tanūnapāt, fair-tongued, with sweet meath balming the paths and waysof Order, make them pleasant.
Convey our sacrifice to heaven, exalting with holy thoughts ourhymns of praise and worship.
10.110.2

आजुह्वानājuhvāna ईड्योīḍyo वन्द्यश्चाvandyaścā याह्यग्नेyāhyaghne वसुभिःvasubhiḥ सजोषाःsajoṣāḥ |

तवंtvaṃ देवानामसिdevānāmasi यह्वyahva होताhotā सsa एनानenān यक्षीषितोyakṣīṣito यजीयानyajīyān ||

Invoked, deserving prayer and adoration, O Agni, come accordant with the Vasus.
Thou art, O Youthful Lord, the Gods’ Invoker, so, best of Sacrificers, bring them quickly.
10.110.3

पराचीनंprācīnaṃ बर्हिःbarhiḥ परदिशाpradiśā पर्थिव्याpṛthivyā वस्तोरस्याvastorasyā वर्ज्यतेग्रेvṛjyateaghre अह्नामahnām |

वयुvyu परथतेprathate वितरंvitaraṃ वरीयोvarīyo देवेभ्योdevebhyo अदितयेस्योनमaditayesyonam ||

By rule the Sacred Grass is scattered eastward, a robe to clothe this earth when dawns are breaking.
Widely it spreads around and far-extended, fair for the Gods and bringing peace and freedom.
10.110.4

वयचस्वतीरुर्वियाvyacasvatīrurviyā विvi शरयन्तांśrayantāṃ पतिभ्योpatibhyo नna जनयःशुम्भमानाःjanayaḥśumbhamānāḥ |

देवीर्द्वारोdevīrdvāro बर्हतीर्विश्वमिन्वाbṛhatīrviśvaminvā देवेभ्योभवतdevebhyobhavata सुप्रायणाःsuprāyaṇāḥ ||

Let the expansive Doors be widely opened, like wives who deck their beauty for their husbands.
Lofty, celestial, all-impelling Portals, admit the Gods and give them easy entrance.
10.110.5

आā सुष्वयन्तीsuṣvayantī यजतेyajate उपाकेupāke उषासानक्ताuṣāsānaktā सदतांsadatāṃ नियोनौniyonau |

दिव्येdivye योषणेyoṣaṇe बर्हतीbṛhatī सुरुक्मेsurukme अधिadhi शरियंशुक्रपिशंśriyaṃśukrapiśaṃ दधानेdadhāne ||

Pouring sweet dews let holy Night and Morning, each close to each, he seated at their station,
Lofty, celestial Dames with gold to deck them. assuming all their fair and radiant beauty.
10.110.6

दैव्याdaivyā होताराhotārā परथमाprathamā सुवाचाsuvācā मिमानाmimānā यज्ञंyajñaṃ मनुषोयजध्यैmanuṣoyajadhyai |

परचोदयन्ताpracodayantā विदथेषुvidatheṣu कारूkārū पराचीनंprācīnaṃ जयोतिःप्रदिशाjyotiḥpradiśā दिशन्ताdiśantā ||

Come the two first celestial sweet-voiced Hotars, arranging sacrifice for man to worship
As singers who inspire us in assemblies, showing the eastward light with their direction.
10.110.7

आā नोno यज्ञंyajñaṃ भारतीbhāratī तूयमेत्विळाtūyametviḷā मनुष्वदिहचेतयन्तीmanuṣvadihacetayantī |

तिस्रोtisro देवीर्बर्हिरेदंdevīrbarhiredaṃ सयोनंsyonaṃ सरस्वतीस्वपसःsarasvatīsvapasaḥ सदन्तुsadantu ||

Let Bhāratī come quickly to our worship, and Iḷā showing like a human being.
So let Sarasvatī and both her fellows, deft Goddesses, on this fair grass be seated.
10.110.8

यya इमेime दयावाप्र्थिवीdyāvāpṛthivī जनित्रीjanitrī रूपैरपिंशदrūpairapiṃśad भुवनानिविश्वाbhuvanāniviśvā |

तमद्यtamadya होतरिषितोhotariṣito यजीयानyajīyān देवंdevaṃ तवष्टारमिहtvaṣṭāramiha यक्षिyakṣi विद्वानvidvān ||

Hotar more skilled in sacrifice, bring hither with speed to-day God Tvaṣṭar, thou who knowest.
Even him who formed these two, the Earth and Heaven the Parents, with their forms, and every creature.
10.110.9

उपावस्र्जupāvasṛja तमन्याtmanyā समञ्जनsamañjan देवानांdevānāṃ पाथpātha रतुथाहवींषिṛtuthāhavīṃṣi |

वनस्पतिःvanaspatiḥ शमिताśamitā देवोdevo अग्निःaghniḥ सवदन्तुsvadantu हव्यम्मधुनाhavyammadhunā घर्तेनghṛtena ||

Send to our offerings which thyself thou balmest the Companies of Gods in ordered season.
Agni, Vanaspati the Immolator sweeten our offered gift with meath and butter.
10.110.10

सद्योsadyo जातोjāto वयमिमीतvyamimīta यज्ञमग्निर्देवानामभवत्पुरोगाःyajñamaghnirdevānāmabhavatpuroghāḥ |

अस्यasya होतुःhotuḥ परदिश्यpradiśy रतस्यṛtasya वाचिvāci सवाहाक्र्तंहविरदन्तुsvāhākṛtaṃhaviradantu देवाःdevāḥ ||

Agni, as soon as he was born, made ready the sacrifice, and was the Gods’ preceder.
May the Gods cat our offering consecrated according to this true Priest's voice and guidance.
