HYMN CXXXIII. INDRA.


परोpro षवस्मैṣvasmai पुरोरथमिन्द्रायpurorathamindrāya शूषमर्चतśūṣamarcata |

अभीकेabhīke चिदुलोकक्र्तcidulokakṛt संगेsaṃghe समत्सुsamatsu वर्त्रहास्माकंvṛtrahāsmākaṃ बोधिbodhi चोदितानभन्तामन्यकेषांcoditānabhantāmanyakeṣāṃ जयाकाjyākā अधिadhi धन्वसुdhanvasu ||

SING strength to Indra that shall set his chariot in the foremost place.
Giver of room in closest fight, slayer of foes in shock of war, be thou our great encourager. Let the weak bowstrings break upon the bows of feeble enemies.
10.133.1

तवंtvaṃ सिन्धून्रवास्र्जो.अधराचोsindhūnravāsṛjo.adharāco अहन्नहिमahannahim |

अशत्रुरिन्द्रजज्ञिषेaśatrurindrajajñiṣe विश्वंviśvaṃ पुष्यसिpuṣyasi वार्यंvāryaṃ तंtaṃ तवाtvā परिpari षवजामहेनभन्तामन्यकेषांṣvajāmahenabhantāmanyakeṣāṃ जयाकाjyākā अधिadhi धन्वसुdhanvasu ||

Thou didst destroy the Dragon: thou sentest the rivers down to earth.
Foeless, O Indra, wast thou born. Thou tendest well each choicest thing. Therefore we draw us close to thee. Let the weak bowstrings break upon the bows of feeble enemies.
10.133.2

विvi षुṣu विश्वाviśvā अरातयो.अर्योarātayo.aryo नशन्तnaśanta नोno धियःdhiyaḥ |

अस्तासिशत्रवेastāsiśatrave वधंvadhaṃ योyo नna इन्द्रindra जिघांसतिjighāṃsati याyā तेte रातिर्ददिर्वसुrātirdadirvasu नभन्तामन्यकेषांnabhantāmanyakeṣāṃ जयाकाjyākā अधिadhi धन्वसुdhanvasu ||

Destroyed be all malignities and all our enemy's designs.
Thy bolt thou castest, at the foe, O Indra, who would srnite us dead: thy liberal bounty gives us wealth.
10.133.3

योyo नna इन्द्राभितोindrābhito जनोjano वर्कायुरादिदेशतिvṛkāyurādideśati |

अधस्पदंadhaspadaṃ तमींtamīṃ कर्धिkṛdhi विबाधोvibādho असिasi सासहिर्नभन्तामन्यकेषांsāsahirnabhantāmanyakeṣāṃ जयाकाधिjyākāadhi धन्वसुdhanvasu ||

The robber people round about, Indra, who watch and aim at us,—
Trample them down beneath thy foot; a conquering scatterer art thou.
10.133.4

योyo नna इन्द्राभिदासतिindrābhidāsati सनाभिर्यश्चsanābhiryaśca निष्ट्यःniṣṭyaḥ |

अवava तस्यबलंtasyabalaṃ तिरtira महीवmahīva दयौरधdyauradha तमनाtmanā नभन्तामन्यकेषांज्याकाnabhantāmanyakeṣāṃjyākā अधिadhi धन्वसुdhanvasu ||

Whoso assails us, Indra, be the man a stranger or akin,
Bring down, thyself, his strength although it be as vast as are the heavens.
10.133.5

वयमिन्द्रvayamindra तवायवःtvāyavaḥ सखित्वमाsakhitvamā रभामहेrabhāmahe |

रतस्यṛtasya नःपथाnaḥpathā नयातिnayāti विश्वानिviśvāni दुरिताduritā नभन्तामन्यकेषांज्याकाnabhantāmanyakeṣāṃjyākā अधिadhi धन्वसुdhanvasu ||

Close to thy friendship do we cling, O Indra, and depend, or, thee.
Lead us beyond all pain and grief along the path of holy Law.
10.133.6

अस्मभ्यंasmabhyaṃ सुsu तवमिन्द्रtvamindra तांtāṃ शिक्षśikṣa याyā दोहतेdohate परतिprati वरंजरित्रेvaraṃjaritre |

अछिद्रोध्नीachidrodhnī पीपयदpīpayad यथाyathā नःnaḥ सहस्रधारापयसाsahasradhārāpayasā महीmahī गौःghauḥ ||

Do thou bestow upon us her, O Indra, who yields according to the singer's longing,
That the great Cow may, with exhaustless udder, pouring a thousand streams, give milk to feed us.
