HYMN CXXXIV. INDRA.


उभेubhe यदिन्द्रyadindra रोदसीrodasī आपप्राथोषाāpaprāthoṣā इवiva |

महान्तंmahāntaṃ तवामहीनांtvāmahīnāṃ सम्राजंsamrājaṃ चर्षणीनांcarṣaṇīnāṃ देवीdevī जनित्र्यजीजनद्भद्राjanitryajījanadbhadrā जनित्र्यजीजनतjanitryajījanat ||

As, like the Morning, thou hast filled, O Indra, both the earth and heaven.
So as the Mighty One, great King of all the mighty world of men, the Goddess Mother brought thee forth, the Blessed Mother gave thee life.
10.134.1

अवava समsma दुर्हणायतोdurhaṇāyato मर्तस्यmartasya तनुहिtanuhi सथिरमsthiram |

अधस्पदंadhaspadaṃ तमींtamīṃ कर्धिkṛdhi योyo अस्मानादिदेशतिasmānādideśati देवीdevī जनित्र्यजीजनदjanitryajījanad भद्राजनित्र्यजीजनतbhadrājanitryajījanat ||

Relax that mortal's stubborn strength whose heart is bent on wickedness.
Trample him down beneath thy feet who watches for and aims at us. The Goddess Mother brought thee forth, the Blessed Mother gave thee life.
10.134.2

अवava तयाtyā बर्हतीरिषोbṛhatīriṣo विश्वश्चन्द्राviśvaścandrā अमित्रहनamitrahan |

शचीभिःशक्रśacībhiḥśakra धूनुहीन्द्रdhūnuhīndra विश्वाभिरूतिभिर्देवीviśvābhirūtibhirdevī जनित्र्यjanitry ...... ||

Shake down, O Slayer of the foe, those great all splendid enemies.
With all thy powers, O Śakra, all thine helps, O Indra, shake them down:
10.134.3

अवava यतyat तवंtvaṃ शतक्रतविन्द्रśatakratavindra विश्वानिviśvāni धूनुषेdhūnuṣe |

रयिंनrayiṃna सुन्वतेsunvate सचाsacā सहस्रिणीभिरूतिभिर्देवीsahasriṇībhirūtibhirdevī जनित्र्यjanitry ...... ||

As thou, O Śatakratu, thou, O Indrv, shakest all things down
As wealth for him who sheds the juice, with thine assistance thousandfold.
10.134.4

अवava सवेदाsvedā इवाभितोivābhito विष्वकviṣvak पतन्तुpatantu दिद्यवःdidyavaḥ |

दूर्वायाdūrvāyā इवतन्तवोivatantavo वयस्मदेतुvyasmadetu दुर्मतिर्देवीdurmatirdevī जनीत्र्यjanītry ...... ||

Around, on every side like drops of sweat let lightning-flashes fall.
Let all malevolence pass away from us like threads of Darva grass.
10.134.5

दीर्घंdīrghaṃ हयङकुशंhyaṅkuśaṃ यथाyathā शक्तिंśaktiṃ बिभर्षिbibharṣi मन्तुमःmantumaḥ |

पूर्वेणpūrveṇa मघवनmaghavan पदाजोpadājo वयांvayāṃ यथाyathā यमोyamo देवीdevī जनित्र्य...janitry... ||

Thou bearest in thine hand a lance like a long hook, great Counsellor!
As with his foremost foot a goat, draw down the branch, O Maghavan.
10.134.6

नकिर्देवाnakirdevā मिनीमसिminīmasi नकिराnakirā योपयामसिyopayāmasi मन्त्रश्रुत्यंचरामसिmantraśrutyaṃcarāmasi |

पक्षेभिरपिकक्षेभिरत्राभिpakṣebhirapikakṣebhiratrābhi संsaṃ रभामहेrabhāmahe ||

Never, O Gods, do we offend, nor are we ever obstinate: we walk as holy texts command.
Closely we clasp and cling to you, cling to your sides, beneath your arms.
