HYMN CLXXIV. THE KING.


अभीवर्तेनabhīvartena हविषाhaviṣā येनेन्द्रोyenendro अभिवाव्र्तेabhivāvṛte |

तेनास्मान्ब्रह्मणसtenāsmānbrahmaṇas पते.अभिpate.abhi राष्ट्रायrāṣṭrāya वर्तयvartaya ||

WITH offering for success in fight whence Indra was victorious.
With this, O Brahmaṇaspati, let us attain to royal sway.
10.174.1

अभिव्र्त्यabhivṛtya सपत्नानभिsapatnānabhi याyā नोno अरातयःarātayaḥ |

अभिabhi पर्तन्यन्तन्तिष्ठाभिpṛtanyantantiṣṭhābhi योyo नna इरस्यतिirasyati ||

Subduing those who rival us, subduing all malignities,
Withstand the man who menaces, withstand the man who angers us.
10.174.2

अभिabhi तवाtvā देवःdevaḥ सविताभिsavitābhi सोमोsomo अवीव्र्ततavīvṛtat |

अभिabhi तवाtvā विश्वाभूतान्यभीवर्तोviśvābhūtānyabhīvarto यथाससिyathāsasi ||

Soma and Savitar the God have made thee a victorious King
All elements have aided thee, to make thee general conqueror.
10.174.3

येनेन्द्रोyenendro हविषाhaviṣā कर्त्व्यभवदkṛtvyabhavad दयुम्न्युत्तमःdyumnyuttamaḥ |

इदंidaṃ तदक्रिtadakri देवाdevā असपत्नःasapatnaḥ किलाभुवमkilābhuvam ||

Oblation, that which Indra. gave and thus grew glorious and most high,—
This have I offered, Gods! and hence now, verily, am rivalless.
10.174.4

असपत्नःasapatnaḥ सपत्नहाभिराष्ट्रोsapatnahābhirāṣṭro विषासहिःviṣāsahiḥ |

यथाहमेषांyathāhameṣāṃ भूतानांbhūtānāṃ विराजानिvirājāni जनस्यjanasya चca ||

Slayer of rivals, rivalless, victorious, with royal sway,
Over these beings may I rule, may I be Sovran of the folk.
