HYMN CXC. CREATION.


रतंṛtaṃ चca सत्यंsatyaṃ चाभीद्धातcābhīddhāt तपसो.अध्यजायतtapaso.adhyajāyata |

ततोरात्र्यजायतtatorātryajāyata ततःtataḥ समुद्रोsamudro अर्णवःarṇavaḥ ||

FROM Fervour kindled to its height Eternal Law and Truth were born:
Thence was the Night produced, and thence the billowy flood of sea arose.
10.190.1

समुद्रादर्णवादधिsamudrādarṇavādadhi संवत्सरोsaṃvatsaro अजायतajāyata |

अहोरात्राणिविदधदahorātrāṇividadhad विश्वस्यviśvasya मिषतोmiṣato वशीvaśī ||

From that same billowy flood of sea the Year was afterwards produced,
Ordainer of the days nights, Lord over all who close the eye.

सूर्याचन्द्रमसौsūryācandramasau धाताdhātā यथापूर्वमकल्पयतyathāpūrvamakalpayat |

दिवंdivaṃ चप्र्थिवींcapṛthivīṃ चान्तरिक्षमथोcāntarikṣamatho सवःsvaḥ ||

Dhātar, the great Creator, then formed in due order Sun and Moon.
He formed in order Heaven and Earth, the regions of the air, and light.
