HYMN XXX. WATERS.


परpra देवत्राdevatrā बराह्मणेbrāhmaṇe गातुरेत्वपोghāturetvapo अछाachā मनसोmanaso नप्रयुक्तिnaprayukti |

महींmahīṃ मित्रस्यmitrasya वरुणस्यvaruṇasya धासिंdhāsiṃ पर्थुज्रयसेरीरधाpṛthujrayaserīradhā सुव्र्क्तिमsuvṛktim ||

As ’twere with swift exertion of the spirit, let the priest speed to the celestial Waters,
The glorious food of Varuṇa and Mitra. To him who spreadeth far this laud I offer.
10.30.1

अध्वर्यवोadhvaryavo हविष्मन्तोhaviṣmanto हिhi भूताछापbhūtāchāpa इतोशतीरुशन्तःitośatīruśantaḥ |

अवava याश्चष्टेyāścaṣṭe अरुणःaruṇaḥ सुपर्णस्तमास्यध्वमूर्मिमद्याsuparṇastamāsyadhvamūrmimadyā सुहस्ताःsuhastāḥ ||

Adhvaryus, he ye ready with oblations,, and come with longing to the longing Waters,
Down on which looks the. purple-tinted Eagle. Pour ye that flowing wave this day, deft-handed.
10.30.2

अध्वर्यवो.अपadhvaryavo.apa इताitā समुद्रमपांsamudramapāṃ नपातंnapātaṃ हविषाhaviṣā यजध्वमyajadhvam |

सsa वोvo दददूर्मिमद्याdadadūrmimadyā सुपूतंsupūtaṃ तस्मैtasmai सोमंsomaṃ मधुमन्तंसुनोतmadhumantaṃsunota ||

Go to the reservoir, O ye Adhvaryus worship the Waters’ Child with your oblations.
A consecrated wave he now will give you, so press for him the Soma rich in sweetness.
10.30.3

योyo अनिध्मोanidhmo दीदयदप्स्वन्तर्यंdīdayadapsvantaryaṃ विप्रासviprāsa ईळतेध्वरेषुīḷateadhvareṣu |

अपांapāṃ नपानnapān मधुमतीरपोmadhumatīrapo दाdā याभिरिन्द्रोवाव्र्धेyābhirindrovāvṛdhe वीर्यायvīryāya ||

He who shines bright in floods, unfed with fuel, whom sages worship at their sacrifices:
Give waters rich in sweets, Child of the Waters, even those which gave heroic might to Indra:
10.30.4

याभिःyābhiḥ सोमोsomo मोदतेmodate हर्षतेharṣate चca कल्याणीभिर्युवतिभिर्नमर्यःkalyāṇībhiryuvatibhirnamaryaḥ |

ताtā अध्वर्योadhvaryo अपोapo अछाachā परेहिparehi यदासिञ्चाोषधीभिःyadāsiñcāoṣadhībhiḥ पुनीतातpunītāt ||

Those in which Soma joys and is delighted, as a young man with fair and pleasant damsels.
Go thou unto those Waters, O Adhvaryu, and purify with herbs what thou infusest.
10.30.5

एवेदeved यूनेyūne युवतयोyuvatayo नमन्तnamanta यदीमुशन्नुशतीरेत्यछyadīmuśannuśatīretyacha |

संsaṃ जानतेjānate मनसाmanasā संsaṃ चिकित्रे.अध्वर्यवोcikitre.adhvaryavo धिषणापश्चदेवीःdhiṣaṇāpaścadevīḥ ||

So maidens bow before the youthful gallant who comes with love to them who yearn to meet him.
In heart accordant and in wish one-minded are the Adhvaryus and the heavenly Waters.
10.30.6

योyo वोvo वर्ताभ्योvṛtābhyo अक्र्णोदुakṛṇodu लोकंlokaṃ योyo वोvo मह्याmahyā अभिशस्तेरमुञ्चतabhiśasteramuñcat |

तस्माtasmā इन्द्रायindrāya मधुमन्तमूर्मिंmadhumantamūrmiṃ देवमादनम्प्रdevamādanampra हिणोतनापःhiṇotanāpaḥ ||

He who made room for you when fast imprisoned, who freed you from the mighty imprecation,—
Even to that Indra send the meath-rich current, the wave that gratifies the Gods, O Waters.
10.30.7

परास्मैprāsmai हिनोतhinota मधुमन्तमूर्मिंmadhumantamūrmiṃ गर्भोgharbho योyo वःvaḥ सिन्धवोमध्वsindhavomadhva उत्सःutsaḥ |

घर्तप्र्ष्ठमीड्यमध्वरेष्वापोghṛtapṛṣṭhamīḍyamadhvareṣvāpo रेवतीःश्र्णुताrevatīḥśṛṇutā हवंhavaṃ मेme ||

Send forth to him the meath-rich wave, O Rivers, which is your offspring and a well of sweetness,
Oil-balmed, to be implored at sacrifices. Ye wealthy Waters, hear mine invocation.
10.30.8

तंtaṃ सिन्धवोsindhavo मत्सरमिन्द्रपानमूर्मिंmatsaramindrapānamūrmiṃ परpra हेतheta यya उभेियर्तिubheiyarti |

मदच्युतमौशानंmadacyutamauśānaṃ नभोजांnabhojāṃ परिpari तरितन्तुंविचरन्तमुत्समtritantuṃvicarantamutsam ||

Send forth the rapture-giving wave, O Rivers, which Indra drinks, which sets the Twain in motion;
The well that springeth from the clouds, desirous, that wandereth triple-formed, distilling transport.
10.30.9

आवर्व्र्ततीरधāvarvṛtatīradha नुnu दविधाराdvidhārā गोषुयुधोghoṣuyudho नna नियवंचरन्तीःniyavaṃcarantīḥ |

रषेṛṣe जनित्रीर्भुवनस्यjanitrīrbhuvanasya पत्नीरपोpatnīrapo वन्दस्वसव्र्धःvandasvasavṛdhaḥ सयोनीःsayonīḥ ||

These winding Streams which with their double current, like cattle-raiders, seek the lower pastures,—
Waters which dwell together, thrive together, Queens, Mothers of the world, these, Ṛṣi, honour.
10.30.10

हिनोताhinotā नोno अध्वरंadhvaraṃ देवयज्याdevayajyā हिनोतhinota बरह्मbrahma सनयेधनानामsanayedhanānām |

रतस्यṛtasya योगेyoghe विvi शयध्वमूधःśyadhvamūdhaḥ शरुष्टीवरीर्भूतनास्मभ्यमापःśruṣṭīvarīrbhūtanāsmabhyamāpaḥ ||

Send forth our sacrifice with holy worship send forth the hymn and prayer for gain of riches.
For need of sacrifice disclose the udder. Give gracious hearing to our call, O Waters.
10.30.11

आपोāpo रेवतीःrevatīḥ कषयथाkṣayathā हिhi वस्वःvasvaḥ करतुंkratuṃ चca भद्रम्बिभ्र्थाम्र्तंbhadrambibhṛthāmṛtaṃ चca |

रायश्चrāyaśca सथstha सवपत्यस्यsvapatyasya पत्नीःसरस्वतीpatnīḥsarasvatī तदtad गर्णतेghṛṇate वयोvayo धातdhāt ||

For, wealthy Waters, ye control all treasures: ye bring auspicious intellect and Amṛta.
Ye are the Queens of independent riches Sarasvatī give full life to the singer!
10.30.12

परतिprati यदापोyadāpo अद्र्श्रमायतीर्घ्र्तंadṛśramāyatīrghṛtaṃ पयांसिpayāṃsi बिभ्रतीर्मधूनिbibhratīrmadhūni |

अध्वर्युभिर्मनसाadhvaryubhirmanasā संविदानाsaṃvidānā इन्द्रायindrāya सोमंसुषुतंsomaṃsuṣutaṃ भरन्तीःbharantīḥ ||

When I behold the Waters coming hither, carrying with them milk and mcath and butter,
Bearing the well-pressed Soma juice to Indra, they harmonize in spirit with Adhvaryus.
10.30.13

एमाemā अग्मनaghman रेवतीर्जीवधन्याrevatīrjīvadhanyā अध्वर्यवःadhvaryavaḥ सादयतासखायःsādayatāsakhāyaḥ |

निni बर्हिषिbarhiṣi धत्तनdhattana सोम्यासो.अपांsomyāso.apāṃ नप्त्रासंविदानासnaptrāsaṃvidānāsa एनाःenāḥ ||

Rich, they are come with wealth for living beings, O friends, Adhvaryus, seat them in their places.
Seat them on holy grass, ye Soma-bringers in harmony with the Offspring of the Waters.
10.30.14

आग्मन्नापāghmannāpa उशतीर्बर्हिरेदंuśatīrbarhiredaṃ नयध्वरेnyadhvare असदन्देवयन्तीःasadandevayantīḥ |

अध्वर्यवःadhvaryavaḥ सुनुतेन्द्रायsunutendrāya सोममभूदुsomamabhūdu वःसुशकाvaḥsuśakā देवयज्याdevayajyā ||

Now to this grass are come the longing Waters: the Pious Ones are seated at our worship.
Adbvaryus, press the Soma juice for Indra so will the service of the Gods be easy.
