HYMN LVI. VIŚVEDEVAS.


नna ताtā मिनन्तिminanti मायिनोmāyino नna धीराdhīrā वरताvratā देवानांdevānāṃ परथमाprathamā धरुवाणिdhruvāṇi |

नna रोदसीrodasī अद्रुहाadruhā वेद्याभिर्नvedyābhirna पर्वताparvatā निनमेniname तस्थिवांसःtasthivāṃsaḥ ||

NOT men of magic skill, not men of wisdom impair the Gods’ first steadfast ordinances.
Ne’er may the earth and heaven which know not malice, nor the fixed hills, be bowed by sage devices.
3.56.1

षडṣaḍ भारानेकोbhārāneko अचरनacaran बिभर्त्यbibharty रतंṛtaṃ वर्षिष्ठमुपvarṣiṣṭhamupa गावghāva आगुःāghuḥ तिस्रोtisro महीरुपरास्तस्थुरत्याmahīruparāstasthuratyā गुहाghuhā दवेdve निहितेदर्श्येकाnihitedarśyekā ||

One, moving not away, supports six burthens: the Cows proceed to him the true, the Highest.
Near stand three Mighty Ones who travel swiftly: two are concealed from sight, one is apparent.
3.56.2

तरिपाजस्योtripājasyo वर्षभोvṛṣabho विश्वरूपviśvarūpa उतuta तर्युधाtryudhā पुरुधpurudha परजावानprajāvān |

तर्यनीकःtryanīkaḥ पत्यतेpatyate माहिनावानmāhināvān सsa रेतोधाretodhā वर्षभःvṛṣabhaḥ शश्वतीनामśaśvatīnām ||

The Bull who wears all shapes, the triple-breasted, three-uddered, with a brood in many places,
Ruleth majestic with his triple aspect, the Bull, the Everlasting Ones' impregner.
3.56.3

अभीकabhīka आसांāsāṃ पदवीरबोध्यादित्यानामह्वेpadavīrabodhyādityānāmahve चारुcāru नामnāma |

आपश्चिदस्माāpaścidasmā अरमन्तaramanta देवीःdevīḥ पर्थगpṛthagh वरजन्तीःvrajantīḥ परिpari षीमव्र्ञ्जनṣīmavṛñjan ||

When nigh them, as their tracer he observed them: he called aloud the dear name of Ādityas.
The Goddesses, the Waters, stayed to meet him: they who were wandering separate enclosed him.
3.56.4

तरीtrī षधस्थाṣadhasthā सिन्धवस्त्रिःsindhavastriḥ कवीनामुतkavīnāmuta तरिमाताtrimātā विदथेषुvidatheṣu सम्राटsamrāṭ |

रतावरीर्योषणास्तिस्रोṛtāvarīryoṣaṇāstisro अप्यास्त्रिराapyāstrirā दिवोdivo विदथेvidathe पत्यमानाःpatyamānāḥ ||

Streams! the wise Gods have thrice three habitations. Child of three Mothers, he is Lord in synods.
Three are the holy Ladies of the Waters, thrice here from heaven supreme in our assembly.
3.56.5

तरिराtrirā दिवःdivaḥ सवितर्वार्याणिsavitarvāryāṇi दिवे-दिवdive-diva आā सुवsuva तरिर्नोtrirno अह्नःahnaḥ |

तरिधातुtridhātu रायrāya आā सुवाsuvā वसूनिvasūni भगbhagha तरातर्धिषणेtrātardhiṣaṇe सातयेsātaye धाःdhāḥ ||

Do thou, O Savitar, from heaven thrice hither, three times a day, send down thy blessings daily.
Send us, O Bhaga, triple wealth and treasure; cause the two worlds to prosper us, Preserver!
3.56.6

तरिराtrirā दिवःdivaḥ सविताsavitā सोषवीतिsoṣavīti राजानाrājānā मित्रावरुणाmitrāvaruṇā सुपाणीsupāṇī |

आपश्चिदस्यāpaścidasya रोदसीrodasī चिदुर्वीcidurvī रत्नंratnaṃ भिक्षन्तbhikṣanta सवितुःsavituḥ सवायsavāya ||

Savitar thrice from heaven pours down abundance, and the fair-handed Kings Varuṇa, Mitra;
And spacious Heaven and Earth, yea, and the Waters, solicit wealth that Savitar may send us.
3.56.7

तरिरुत्तमाtriruttamā दूणशाdūṇaśā रोचनानिrocanāni तरयोtrayo राजन्त्यसुरस्यrājantyasurasya वीराःvīrāḥ |

रतावानṛtāvāna इषिराiṣirā दूळभासस्त्रिराdūḷabhāsastrirā दिवोdivo विदथेvidathe सन्तुsantu देवाःdevāḥ ||

Three are the bright realms, best, beyond attainment, and three, the Asura's Heroes, rule as Sovrans,
Holy and vigorous, never to be injured. Thrice may the Gods from heaven attend our synod.
