HYMN X. AGNI.


अग्नेaghne तमtam अद्याश्वंadyāśvaṃ नna सतोमैःstomaiḥ करतुंkratuṃ नna भद्रंbhadraṃ हर्दिस्प्र्शमhṛdispṛśam |

रध्यामाṛdhyāmā तta ओहैःohaiḥ ||

This day with praises, Agni, we bring thee that which thou lovest.
Right judgment, like a horse, with our devotions.
4.10.1

अधाadhā हयhy अग्नेaghne करतोरkrator भद्रस्यbhadrasya दक्षस्यdakṣasya साधोःsādhoḥ |

रथीरrathīr रतस्यṛtasya बर्हतोbṛhato बभूथbabhūtha ||

For thou hast ever been the Car-driver, Agni, of noble
Strength, lofty sacrifice, and rightful judgment.
4.10.2

एभिरebhir नोno अर्कैरarkair भवाbhavā नोno अर्वाङarvāṅ सवरsvar णṇa जयोतिःjyotiḥ |

अग्नेaghne विश्वेभिःviśvebhiḥ सुमनाsumanā अनीकैःanīkaiḥ ||

Through these our praises come thou to meet us, bright as the sunlight,
O Agni, well disposed, with all thine aspects.
4.10.3

आभिषābhiṣ टेṭe अद्यadya गीर्भिरghīrbhir गर्णन्तोghṛṇanto ऽगने'ghne दाशेमdāśema |

परpra तेte दिवोdivo नna सतनयन्तिstanayanti शुष्माःśuṣmāḥ ||

Now may we serve thee singing these lauds this day to thee, Agni.
Loud as the voice of Heaven thy blasts are roaring.
4.10.4

तवtava सवादिष्ठाग्नेsvādiṣṭhāghne संद्र्ष्टिरsaṃdṛṣṭir इदाidā चिदcid अह्नahna इदाidā चिदcid अक्तोःaktoḥ |

शरियेśriye रुक्मोrukmo नna रोचतrocata उपाकेupāke ||

Just at this time of the day and the night thy look is the sweetest:
It shineth near us even as gold for glory.
4.10.5

घर्तंghṛtaṃ नna पूतंpūtaṃ तनूरtanūr अरेपाःarepāḥ शुचिśuci हिरण्यमhiraṇyam |

ततtat तेte रुक्मोrukmo नna रोचतrocata सवधावःsvadhāvaḥ ||

Spotless thy body, brilliant as gold, like clarified butter:
This gleams like gold on thee, O Self. dependent.
4.10.6

कर्तंkṛtaṃ चिदcid धिdhi षमाṣmā सनेमिsanemi दवेषोdveṣo ऽगन'ghna इनोषिinoṣi मर्तातmartāt |

इत्थाitthā यजमानादyajamānād रतावःṛtāvaḥ ||

All hate and mischief, yea, if committed, Agni, thou turnest,
Holy One, from the man who rightly worships.
4.10.7

शिवाśivā नःnaḥ सख्याsakhyā सन्तुsantu भरात्राग्नेbhrātrāghne देवेषुdeveṣu युष्मेyuṣme |

साsā नोno नाभिःnābhiḥ सदनेsadane सस्मिन्नsasminn ऊधनūdhan ||

Agni, with you Gods, prosperous be our friendships and kinships.
Be this our bond here by this place, thine altar.
