HYMN XLIII. AŚVINS.


कka उu शरवतśravat कतमोkatamo यज्ञियानांyajñiyānāṃ वन्दारुvandāru देवःdevaḥ कतमोkatamo जुषातेjuṣāte |

कस्येमांkasyemāṃ देवीमdevīm अम्र्तेषुamṛteṣu परेष्ठांpreṣṭhāṃ हर्दिhṛdi शरेषामśreṣāma सुष्टुतिंsuṣṭutiṃ सुहव्यामsuhavyām ||

WHO will hear, who of those who merit worship, which of all Gods take pleasure in our homage?
On whose heart shall we lay this laud celestial, rich with fair offerings, dearest to Immortals?
4.43.1

कोko मर्ळातिmṛḷāti कतमkatama आगमिष्ठोāghamiṣṭho देवानामdevānām उu कतमःkatamaḥ शम्भविष्ठःśambhaviṣṭhaḥ |

रथंrathaṃ कमkam आहुरāhur दरवदश्वमdravadaśvam आशुंāśuṃ यंyaṃ सूर्यस्यsūryasya दुहिताव्र्णीतduhitāvṛṇīta ||

Who will be gracious? Who will come most quickly of all the Gods? Who will
bring bliss most largely?
What car do they call swift with rapid coursers? That which the Daughter of the Sun elected.
4.43.2

मक्षूmakṣū हिhi षमाṣmā गछथghachatha ईवतोīvato दयूनdyūn इन्द्रोindro नna शक्तिमśaktim परितक्म्यायामparitakmyāyām |

दिवdiva आजाताājātā दिव्याdivyā सुपर्णाsuparṇā कयाkayā शचीनामśacīnām भवथःbhavathaḥ शचिष्ठाśaciṣṭhā ||

So many days do ye come swiftly hither, as Indra to give help in stress of battle.
Descended from the sky, divine, strong-pinioned, by which of all your powers are ye most mighty?
4.43.3

काkā वामvām भूदbhūd उपमातिःupamātiḥ कयाkayā नna आश्विनाāśvinā गमथोghamatho हूयमानाhūyamānā |

कोko वामvām महशmahaś चितcit तयजसोtyajaso अभीकabhīka उरुष्यतमuruṣyatam माध्वीmādhvī दस्राdasrā नna ऊतीūtī ||

What is the prayer that we should bring you, Aśvins, whereby ye come to us when invocated?
Whether of you confronts e’en great betrayal? Lovers of sweetness, Dasras, help and save us.
4.43.4

उरुuru वांvāṃ रथःrathaḥ परिpari नक्षतिnakṣati दयामdyām आā यतyat समुद्रादsamudrād अभिabhi वर्ततेvartate वामvām |

मध्वाmadhvā माध्वीmādhvī मधुmadhu वामvām परुषायनpruṣāyan यतyat सींsīṃ वामvām पर्क्षोpṛkṣo भुरजन्तbhurajanta पक्वाःpakvāḥ ||

In the wide space your chariot reacheth heaven, what time it turneth hither from the ocean.
Sweets from your sweet shall drop, lovers of sweetness! These have they dressed for you as dainty viands.
4.43.5

सिन्धुरsindhur हha वांvāṃ रसयाrasayā सिञ्चदsiñcad अश्वानaśvān घर्णाghṛṇā वयोvayo ऽरुषासः'ruṣāsaḥ परिpari गमनghman |

तदtad ऊū षुṣu वामvām अजिरंajiraṃ चेतिceti यानंyānaṃ येनyena पतीpatī भवथःbhavathaḥ सूर्यायाःsūryāyāḥ ||

Let Sindhu with his wave bedew your horses: in fiery glow have the red birds come hither.
Observed of all was that your rapid going, whereby ye were the Lords of Sūrya's Daughter.
4.43.6

इहेहiheha यदyad वांvāṃ समनाsamanā पप्र्क्षेpapṛkṣe सेयमseyam अस्मेasme सुमतिरsumatir वाजरत्नाvājaratnā |

उरुष्यतंuruṣyataṃ जरितारंjaritāraṃ युवंyuvaṃ हha शरितःśritaḥ कामोkāmo नासत्याnāsatyā युवद्रिकyuvadrik ||

Whene’er I gratified you here together, your grace was given us, O ye rich in booty.
Protect, ye Twain, the singer of your praises: to you, Nāsatyas, is my wish directed.
