HYMN LII. DAWN.


परतिprati षयाṣyā सूनरीsūnarī जनीjanī वयुछन्तीvyuchantī परिpari सवसुःsvasuḥ |

दिवोdivo अदर्शिadarśi दुहिताduhitā ||

THIS Lady, giver of delight, after her Sister shining forth, Daughter of Heaven, hath shown herself.-
4.52.1

अश्वेवaśveva चित्रारुषीcitrāruṣī माताmātā गवामghavām रतावरीṛtāvarī |

सखाभूदsakhābhūd अश्विनोरaśvinor उषाःuṣāḥ ||

Unfailing, Mother of the Kine, in colour like a bright red mare,
The Dawn became the Aśvins' Friend.
4.52.2

उतuta सखास्यsakhāsy अश्विनोरaśvinor उतuta माताmātā गवामghavām असिasi |

उतोषोutoṣo वस्वvasva ईशिषेīśiṣe ||

Yea, and thou art the Aśvins' Friend, the Mother of the Kine art thou:
O Dawn thou rulest over wealth.
4.52.3

यावयद्द्वेषसंyāvayaddveṣasaṃ तवाtvā चिकित्वितcikitvit सून्र्तावरिsūnṛtāvari |

परतिprati सतोमैरstomair अभुत्स्महिabhutsmahi ||

Thinking of thee, O joyous One, as her who driveth hate away,
We woke to meet thee with our lauds.
4.52.4

परतिprati भद्राbhadrā अद्र्क्षतadṛkṣata गवांghavāṃ सर्गाsarghā नna रश्मयःraśmayaḥ |

ओषाoṣā अप्राaprā उरुuru जरयःjrayaḥ ||

Our eyes behold thy blessed rays like troops of cattle loosed to feed.
Dawn hath filled full the wide expanse.
4.52.5

आपप्रुषीāpapruṣī विभावरिvibhāvari वयvy आवरāvar जयोतिषाjyotiṣā तमःtamaḥ |

उषोuṣo अनुanu सवधामsvadhām अवava ||

When thou hast filled it, Fulgent One! thou layest bare the gloom with light.
After thy nature aid us, Dawn.
4.52.6

आā दयांdyāṃ तनोषिtanoṣi रश्मिभिरraśmibhir आन्तरिक्षमāntarikṣam उरुuru परियमpriyam |

उषःuṣaḥ शुक्रेणśukreṇa शोचिषाśociṣā ||

Thou overspreadest heaven with rays, the dear wide region of mid-air.
With thy bright shining lustre, Dawn.
