HYMN LXVI. MITRA-VARUṆA.


आā चिकितानcikitāna सुक्रतूsukratū देवौdevau मर्तmarta रिशादसाriśādasā |

वरुणायvaruṇāya रतपेशसेṛtapeśase दधीतdadhīta परयसेprayase महेmahe ||

O SAPIENT man, call the Two Gods, the very wise, who slay the foe.
For Varuṇa, whose form is Law, place offerings for his great delight.
5.66.1

ताtā हिhi कषत्रमkṣatram अविह्रुतंavihrutaṃ सम्यगsamyagh असुर्यमasuryam आशातेāśāte |

अधadha वरतेवvrateva मानुषंmānuṣaṃ सवरsvar णṇa धायिdhāyi दर्शतमdarśatam ||

For they have won unbroken sway in full perfection, power divine.
And, like high laws, the world of man hath been made beautiful as light.
5.66.2

ताtā वामvām एषेeṣe रथानामrathānām उर्वींurvīṃ गव्यूतिमghavyūtim एषामeṣām |

रातहव्यस्यrātahavyasya सुष्टुतिंsuṣṭutiṃ दध्र्कdadhṛk सतोमैरstomair मनामहेmanāmahe ||

Therefore we praise you that your cars may travel far in front of ours-
You who accept the eulogy of Ratahavya with his hymns.
5.66.3

अधाadhā हिhi काव्याkāvyā युवंyuvaṃ दक्षस्यdakṣasya पूर्भिरpūrbhir अद्भुताadbhutā |

निni केतुनाketunā जनानांjanānāṃ चिकेथेcikethe पूतदक्षसाpūtadakṣasā ||

And ye show wMom, Wondrous Gods with fulness of intellIgence.
By men's discernment are Ve marked, O ye whose might is purified.
5.66.4

तदtad रतमṛtam पर्थिविpṛthivi बर्हचbṛhac छरवेषchravaeṣa रषीणामṛṣīṇām |

जरयसानावjrayasānāv अरमaram पर्थ्वpṛthv अतिati कषरन्तिkṣaranti यामभिःyāmabhiḥ ||

This is the Law sublime, O Earth: to aid the Ṛṣis’ toil for fame
The Two, wide-spreading, are prepared. They come with ample overflow.
5.66.5

आā यदyad वामvām ईयचक्षसाīyacakṣasā मित्रmitra वयंvayaṃ चca सूरयःsūrayaḥ |

वयचिष्ठेvyaciṣṭhe बहुपाय्येbahupāyye यतेमहिyatemahi सवराज्येsvarājye ||

Mitra, ye Gods with wandering eyes, would that the worshippers and we
Might strive to reach the realm ye rule, most spacious and protected well,
5.66.6
