HYMN L. VIŚVEDEVAS.


हुवेhuve वोvo देवीमदितिंdevīmaditiṃ नमोभिर्म्र्ळीकायnamobhirmṛḷīkāya वरुणंvaruṇaṃ मित्रमग्निमmitramaghnim |

अभिक्षदामर्यमणंabhikṣadāmaryamaṇaṃ सुशेवंsuśevaṃ तरातॄनtrātṝn देवानdevān सवितारंsavitāraṃ भगंbhaghaṃ चca ||

I CALL with prayers on Aditi your Goddess, on Agni, Mitra, Varuṇa for favour,
On Aryaman who gives unasked, the gracious, on Gods who save, on Savitar and Bhaga.
6.50.1

सुज्योतिषःsujyotiṣaḥ सूर्यsūrya दक्षपितॄननागास्त्वेdakṣapitṝnanāghāstve सुमहोsumaho वीहिvīhi देवानdevān |

दविजन्मानोdvijanmāno यya रतसापःṛtasāpaḥ सत्याःsatyāḥ सवर्वन्तोsvarvanto यजताyajatā अग्निजिह्वाःaghnijihvāḥ ||

Visit, to prove us free from sin, O Sūrya Lord of great might, the bright Gods sprung from Dakṣa,
Twice-born and true, observing sacred duties, Holy and full of light, whose tongue is Agni.
6.50.2

उतuta दयावाप्र्थिवीdyāvāpṛthivī कषत्रमुरुkṣatramuru बर्हदbṛhad रोदसीrodasī शरणंśaraṇaṃ सुषुम्नेsuṣumne |

महसmahas करथोkaratho वरिवोvarivo यथाyathā नो.अस्मेno.asme कषयायkṣayāya धिषणेdhiṣaṇe अनेहःanehaḥ ||

And, O ye Heaven and Earth, a wide dominion, O ye most blissful Worlds, our lofty shelter,
Give ample room and freedom for our dwelling, a home, ye Hemispheres, which none may rival.
6.50.3

आā नोno रुद्रस्यrudrasya सूनवोsūnavo नमन्तामद्याnamantāmadyā हूतासोhūtāso वसवो.अध्र्ष्टाःvasavo.adhṛṣṭāḥ |

यदीमर्भेyadīmarbhe महतिmahati वाvā हितासोhitāso बाधेbādhe मरुतोmaruto अह्वामahvāma देवानdevān ||

This day invited may the Sons of Rudra, resistless, excellent, stoop down to meet us;
For, when beset with slight or sore affliction, we ever call upon the Gods, the Maruts;
6.50.4

मिम्यक्षmimyakṣa येषुyeṣu रोदसीrodasī नुnu देवीdevī सिषक्तिsiṣakti पूषाpūṣā अभ्यर्धयज्वाabhyardhayajvā |

शरुत्वाśrutvā हवंhavaṃ मरुतोmaruto यदyad धdha याथyātha भूमाbhūmā रेजन्तेrejante अध्वनिadhvani परविक्तेpravikte ||

To whom the Goddess Rodasī clings closely, whom Pūṣan follows bringing ample bounty.
What time ye hear our call and come, O Maruts, upon your separate path all creatures tremble.
6.50.5

अभिabhi तयंtyaṃ वीरंvīraṃ गिर्वणसमर्चेन्द्रंghirvaṇasamarcendraṃ बरह्मणाbrahmaṇā जरितर्नवेनjaritarnavena |

शरवदिदśravadid धवमुपdhavamupa चca सतवानोstavāno रासदrāsad वाजानुपvājānupa महोmaho गर्णानःghṛṇānaḥ ||

With a new hymn extol, O thou who singest, the Lover of the Song, the Hero Indra.
May he, exalted, hear our invocation, and grant us mighty wealth and strength when lauded.
6.50.6

ओमानमापोomānamāpo मानुषीरम्र्क्तंmānuṣīramṛktaṃ धातdhāta तोकायtokāya तनयायtanayāya शंयोःśaṃyoḥ |

यूयंyūyaṃ हिhi षठाṣṭhā भिषजोbhiṣajo मात्र्तमाmātṛtamā विश्वस्यviśvasya सथातुर्जगतोsthāturjaghato जनित्रीःjanitrīḥ ||

Give full protection, Friends of man, ye Waters, in peace and trouble, to our sons and grandsons.
For ye are our most motherly physicians, parents of all that standeth, all that moveth.
6.50.7

आā नोno देवःdevaḥ सविताsavitā तरायमाणोtrāyamāṇo हिरण्यपाणिर्यजतोhiraṇyapāṇiryajato जगम्यातjaghamyāt |

योyo दत्रवानुषसोdatravānuṣaso नna परतीकंpratīkaṃ वयूर्णुतेvyūrṇute दाशुषेdāśuṣe वार्याणिvāryāṇi ||

May Savitar come hither and approach us, the God who rescues, Holy, goldenhanded,
The God who, bounteous as the face of Morning, discloses precious gifts for him who worships.
6.50.8

उतuta तवंtvaṃ सूनोsūno सहसोsahaso नोno अद्याadyā देवानस्मिन्नध्वरेdevānasminnadhvare वव्र्त्याःvavṛtyāḥ |

सयामहंsyāmahaṃ तेte सदमिदsadamid रातौrātau तवtava सयामग्ने.अवसाsyāmaghne.avasā सुवीरःsuvīraḥ ||

And thou, O Son of Strength, do thou turn hither the Gods to-day to this our holy service.
May I for evermore enjoy thy bounty and, Agni, by thy grace be rich in heroes.
6.50.9

उतuta तयाtyā मेme हवमाhavamā जग्म्यातंjaghmyātaṃ नासत्याnāsatyā धीभिर्युवमङगdhībhiryuvamaṅgha विप्राviprā |

अत्रिंatriṃ नna महस्तमसो.अमुमुक्तंmahastamaso.amumuktaṃ तूर्वतंtūrvataṃ नराnarā दुरितादभीकेduritādabhīke ||

Come also to my call, O ye Nāsatyas, yea, verily, through my prayers, ye Holy Sages.
As from great darkness ye delivered Atri, protect us, Chiefs, from danger in the conflict.
6.50.10

तेte नोno रायोrāyo दयुमतोdyumato वाजवतोvājavato दातारोdātāro भूतbhūta नर्वतःnṛvataḥ पुरुक्षोःpurukṣoḥ |

दशस्यन्तोdaśasyanto दिव्याःdivyāḥ पार्थिवासोpārthivāso गोजाताghojātā अप्याapyā मर्लताmṛlatā चदेवाःcadevāḥ ||

O Gods, bestow upon us riches, splendid with strength and heroes, bringing food in plenty.
Be gracious, helpful Gods of earth, of heaven, born of the Cow, and dwellers in the waters.
6.50.11

तेte नोno रुद्रःrudraḥ सरस्वतीsarasvatī सजोषाsajoṣā मीळ्हुष्मन्तोmīḷhuṣmanto विष्णुर्म्र्ळन्तुviṣṇurmṛḷantu वायुःvāyuḥ |

रभुक्षाṛbhukṣā वाजोvājo दैव्योdaivyo विधाताvidhātā पर्जन्यावाताparjanyāvātā पिप्यतामिषंpipyatāmiṣaṃ नःnaḥ ||

May Rudra and Sarasvatī, accordant, Viṣṇu and Vāyu, pour down gifts and bless us;
Ṛbhukṣan, Vāja, and divine Vidhatar, Parjanya, Vāta make our food abundant.
6.50.12

उतuta सयsya देवःdevaḥ सविताsavitā भगोbhagho नो.अपांno.apāṃ नपादवतुnapādavatu दानुdānu पप्रिःpapriḥ |

तवष्टाtvaṣṭā देवेभिर्जनिभिःdevebhirjanibhiḥ सजोषाsajoṣā दयौर्देवेभिःdyaurdevebhiḥ पर्थिवीpṛthivī समुद्रैःsamudraiḥ ||

May this God Savitar, the Lord, the Offspring of Waters, pouring down his dew be gracious,
And, with the Gods and Dames accordant, Tvaṣṭar; Dyaus with the Gods and Prthivi with oceans.
6.50.13

उतuta नो.अहिर्बुध्न्यःno.ahirbudhnyaḥ शर्णोत्वजśṛṇotvaja एकपातekapāt पर्थिवीpṛthivī समुद्रःsamudraḥ |

विश्वेviśve देवाdevā रताव्र्धोṛtāvṛdho हुवानाhuvānā सतुताstutā मन्त्राःmantrāḥ कविशस्ताkaviśastā अवन्तुavantu ||

May Aja-Ekapād and Ahibudhnya, and Earth and Ocean hear our invocation;
All Gods who strengthen Law, invoked and lauded, and holy texts uttered by sages, help us.
6.50.14

एवाevā नपातोnapāto ममmama तस्यtasya धीभिर्भरद्वाजाdhībhirbharadvājā अभ्यर्चन्त्यर्कैःabhyarcantyarkaiḥ |

गनाghnā हुतासोhutāso वसवो.अध्र्ष्टाvasavo.adhṛṣṭā विश्वेviśve सतुतासोstutāso भूताbhūtā यजत्राःyajatrāḥ ||

So with my thoughts and hymns of praise the children of Bharadvāja sing aloud to please you.
The Dames invoked, and the resistless Vasus, and all ye Holy Ones have been exalted.
