HYMN LIL VIŚVEDEVAS.


नna तदtad दिवाdivā नna पर्थिव्यानुpṛthivyānu मन्येmanye नna यज्ञेनyajñena नोतnota शमीभिराभिःśamībhirābhiḥ |

उब्जन्तुubjantu तंtaṃ सुभ्वःsubhvaḥ पर्वतासोparvatāso निni हीयतामतियाजस्यhīyatāmatiyājasya यष्टाyaṣṭā ||

THIS I allow not in the earth or heaven, at sacrifice or in these holy duties.
May the huge mountains crush him down: degraded be Atiyaja's sacrificing patron.
6.52.1

अतिati वाvā योyo मरुतोmaruto मन्यतेmanyate नोno बरह्मbrahma वाvā यःyaḥ करियमाणंkriyamāṇaṃ निनित्सातninitsāt |

तपूंषिtapūṃṣi तस्मैtasmai वर्जिनानिvṛjināni सन्तुsantu बरह्मद्विषमभिbrahmadviṣamabhi तंtaṃ शोचतुśocatu दयौःdyauḥ ||

Or he who holds us in contempt, O Maruts, or seeks to blame the prayer that we are making,
May agonies of burning be his portion. May the sky scorch the man who hates devotion.
6.52.2

किमङगkimaṅgha तवाtvā बरह्मणःbrahmaṇaḥ सोमsoma गोपांghopāṃ किमङगkimaṅgha तवाहुरभिशस्तिपांtvāhurabhiśastipāṃ नःnaḥ |

किमङगkimaṅgha नःnaḥ पश्यसिpaśyasi निद्यमानानnidyamānān बरह्मद्विषेbrahmadviṣe तपुषिंtapuṣiṃ हेतिमस्यhetimasya ||

Why then, O Soma, do they call thee keeper of prayer? Why then our guardian from reproaches?
Why then beholdest thou how men revile us? Cast thy hot dart at him who hates devotion.
6.52.3

अवन्तुavantu मामुषसोmāmuṣaso जायमानाjāyamānā अवन्तुavantu माmā सिन्धवःsindhavaḥ पिन्वमानाःpinvamānāḥ |

अवन्तुavantu माmā पर्वतासोparvatāso धरुवासो.अवन्तुdhruvāso.avantu माmā पितरोpitaro देवहूतौdevahūtau ||

May Mornings as they spring to life, protect me, and may the Rivers as they swell preserve me.
My guardians be the firmly-seated mountains: the Fathers, when I call on Gods, defend me!
6.52.4

विश्वदानींviśvadānīṃ सुमनसःsumanasaḥ सयामsyāma पश्येमpaśyema नुnu सूर्यमुच्चरन्तमsūryamuccarantam |

तथाtathā करदkarad वसुपतिर्वसूनांvasupatirvasūnāṃ देवानोहानो.अवसागमिष्ठःdevānohāno.avasāghamiṣṭhaḥ ||

Through all our days may we be healthy. minded, and look upon the Sun when he arises.
Grant this the Treasure-Lord of treasures, coming, observant, oftenest of Gods, with succour!
6.52.5

इन्द्रोindro नेदिष्ठमवसागमिष्ठःnediṣṭhamavasāghamiṣṭhaḥ सरस्वतीsarasvatī सिन्धुभिःsindhubhiḥ पिन्वमानाpinvamānā |

पर्जन्योparjanyo नna ओषधीभिर्मयोभुरग्निःoṣadhībhirmayobhuraghniḥ सुशंसःsuśaṃsaḥ सुहवःsuhavaḥ पितेवpiteva ||

Most near, most oft comes Indra with protection, and she Sarasvatī, who swells with rivers -
Parjanya, bringing health with herbs, and Agni, well lauded swift to listen, like a father.
6.52.6

विश्वेviśve देवासdevāsa आā गतghata शर्णुताśṛṇutā मma इमंimaṃ हवमhavam |

एदंedaṃ बर्हिर्निbarhirni षीदतṣīdata ||

Hear this mine invocation; come hither, O Universal Gods,
Be seated on this holy grass.
6.52.7

योyo वोvo देवाdevā घर्तस्नुनाghṛtasnunā हव्येनhavyena परतिभूषतिpratibhūṣati |

तंtaṃ विश्वviśva उपupa गछथghachatha ||

To him who comes to meet you, Gods, with offerings bathed in holy oil-
Approach ye, one and all, to him.
6.52.8

उपupa नःnaḥ सूनवोsūnavo गिरःghiraḥ शर्ण्वन्त्वम्र्तस्यśṛṇvantvamṛtasya येye |

सुम्र्ळीकाsumṛḷīkā भवन्तुbhavantu नःnaḥ ||

All Sons of Immortality shall listen to the songs we sing,
And be exceeding good to us.
6.52.9

विश्वेviśve देवाdevā रताव्र्धṛtāvṛdha रतुभिर्हवनश्रुतःṛtubhirhavanaśrutaḥ |

जुषन्तांjuṣantāṃ युज्यंyujyaṃ पयःpayaḥ ||

May all the Gods who strengthen Law, with Ṛtus, listening to our call,
Be pleased with theit appropriate draught.
6.52.10

सतोत्रमिन्द्रोstotramindro मरुद्गणस्त्वष्ट्र्मानmarudghaṇastvaṣṭṛmān मित्रोmitro अर्यमाaryamā |

इमाimā हव्याhavyā जुषन्तjuṣanta नःnaḥ ||

May Indra, with the Marut host, with Tvaṣṭar, Mitra, Aryaman,
Accept the laud and these our gifts.
6.52.11

इमंimaṃ नोno अग्नेaghne अध्वरंadhvaraṃ होतर्वयुनशोhotarvayunaśo यजyaja |

चिकित्वानcikitvān दैव्यंdaivyaṃ जनमjanam ||

O Agni, Priest, as rules ordain, offer this sacrifice of ours,
Remembering the Heavenly Folk.
6.52.12

विश्वेviśve देवाःdevāḥ शर्णुतेमंśṛṇutemaṃ हवंhavaṃ मेme येye अन्तरिक्षेantarikṣe यya उपupa दयविdyavi षठṣṭha |

येye अग्निजिह्वाaghnijihvā उतuta वाvā यजत्राyajatrā आसद्यास्मिनāsadyāsmin बर्हिषिbarhiṣi मादयध्वमmādayadhvam ||

Listen, All-Gods, to this mine invocation, Ye who inhabit heaven, and air's midregions,
All ye, O Holy Ones, whose tongue is Agni, seated upon this sacred grass, be joyful.
6.52.13

विश्वेviśve देवाdevā ममmama शर्ण्वन्तुśṛṇvantu यज्ञियाyajñiyā उभेubhe रोदसीrodasī अपांapāṃ नपाच्चnapācca मन्मmanma |

माmā वोvo वचांसिvacāṃsi परिचक्ष्याणिparicakṣyāṇi वोचंvocaṃ सुम्नेष्विदsumneṣvid वोvo अन्तमाantamā मदेमmadema ||

May the All-Gods who claim our worship hear my thought; may the two World-halves hear it, and the Waters’ Child.
Let me not utter words that ye may disregard. Closely allied with you may we rejoice in bliss.
6.52.14

येye केke चca जमाjmā महिनोmahino अहिमायाahimāyā दिवोdivo जज्ञिरेjajñire अपांapāṃ सधस्थेsadhasthe |

तेte अस्मभ्यमिषयेasmabhyamiṣaye विश्वमायुःviśvamāyuḥ कषपkṣapa उस्राusrā वरिवस्यन्तुदेवाःvarivasyantudevāḥ ||

And those who, Mighty, with the wiles of serpents, were born on earth, in heaven, where waters gather-
May they vouchsafe us life of full duration. May the Gods kindly give us nights and mornings.
6.52.15

अग्नीपर्जन्याववतंaghnīparjanyāvavataṃ धियंdhiyaṃ मे.अस्मिनme.asmin हवेhave सुहवाsuhavā सुष्टुतिंनःsuṣṭutiṃnaḥ |

इळामन्योiḷāmanyo जनयदjanayad गर्भमन्यःgharbhamanyaḥ परजावतीरिषprajāvatīriṣa आā धत्तमस्मेdhattamasme ||

At this my call, O Agni and Parjanya, help, swift to hear, my thought and our laudation.
One generates holy food, the other offspring, so grant us food enough with store of children.
6.52.16

सतीर्णेstīrṇe बर्हिषिbarhiṣi समिधानेsamidhāne अग्नौaghnau सूक्तेनsūktena महाmahā नमसाnamasā विवासेvivāse |

अस्मिनasmin नोno अद्यadya विदथेvidathe यजत्राyajatrā विश्वेviśve देवाdevā हविषिhaviṣi मादयध्वमmādayadhvam ||

When holy grass is strewn and fire enkindled, with hymn and lowly homage I invite you.
All-Gods, to day in this our great assembly rejoice, ye Holy, in the gifts we offer.
