HYMN VI. AGNI.


परpra नव्यसाnavyasā सहसःsahasaḥ सूनुमछाsūnumachā यज्ञेनyajñena गातुमवghātumava इछमानःichamānaḥ |

वर्श्चद्वनंvṛścadvanaṃ कर्ष्णयामंkṛṣṇayāmaṃ रुशन्तंruśantaṃ वीतीvītī होतारन्दिव्यंhotārandivyaṃ जिगातिjighāti ||

HE who seeks furtherance and grace to help him goes to the Son of Strength with newest worship,
Calling the heavenly Priest to share the banquet, who rends the wood, bright, with his blackened pathway.
6.6.1

सsa शवितानस्तन्यतूśvitānastanyatū रोचनस्थाrocanasthā अजरेभिर्नानदद्भिर्यविष्ठःajarebhirnānadadbhiryaviṣṭhaḥ |

यःyaḥ पावकःpāvakaḥ पुरुतमःpurutamaḥ पुरूणिpurūṇi पर्थून्यग्निरनुयातिpṛthūnyaghniranuyāti भर्वनbharvan ||

White-hued and thundering he dwells in splendour, Most Youthful, with the loudvoiced and eternal-
Agni, most variform, the Purifier, who follows crunching many ample forests.
6.6.2

विvi तेte विष्वगviṣvagh वातजूतासोvātajūtāso अग्नेaghne भामासःbhāmāsaḥ शुचेśuce शुचयश्चरन्तिśucayaścaranti |

तुविम्रक्षासोtuvimrakṣāso दिव्याdivyā नवग्वाnavaghvā वनाvanā वनन्तिvananti धर्षताdhṛṣatā रुजन्तःrujantaḥ ||

Incited by the wind thy flames, O Agni, move onward, Pure One! pure, in all directions.
Thy most destructive heavenly Navagvas break the woods down and devastate them boldly.
6.6.3

येye तेte शुक्रासःśukrāsaḥ शुचयःśucayaḥ शुचिष्मःśuciṣmaḥ कषांkṣāṃ वपन्तिvapanti विषितासोviṣitāso अश्वाःaśvāḥ |

अधadha भरमस्तbhramasta उर्वियाurviyā विvi भातिbhāti यातयमानोyātayamāno अधिadhi सानुsānu पर्श्नेःpṛśneḥ ||

Thy pure white horses from their bonds are loosened: O Radiant One, they shear the ground beneath them,
And far and wide shines out thy flame, and flickers rapidly moving over earth's high ridges.
6.6.4

अधadha जिह्वाjihvā पापतीतिpāpatīti परpra वर्ष्णोvṛṣṇo गोषुयुधोghoṣuyudho नाशनिःnāśaniḥ सर्जानाsṛjānā |

शूरस्येवśūrasyeva परसितिःprasitiḥ कषातिरग्नेर्दुर्वर्तुर्भीमोkṣātiraghnerdurvarturbhīmo दयतेdayate वनानिvanāni ||

Forth darts the Bull's tongue like the sharp stone weapon discharged by him who fights to win the cattle.
Agni's fierce flame is like a hero's onset: dread and resistless he destroys the forests.
6.6.5

आā भानुनाbhānunā पार्थिवानिpārthivāni जरयांसिjrayāṃsi महस्तोदस्यmahastodasya धर्षताdhṛṣatā ततन्थtatantha |

सsa बाधस्वापbādhasvāpa भयाbhayā सहोभिsahobhi सप्र्धोspṛdho वनुष्यनvanuṣyan वनुषोvanuṣo निni जूर्वjūrva ||

Thou with the sunlight of the great Impeller hast boldly over-spread the earth's expanses.
So drive away with conquering might all perils. fighting out foemen burn up those who harm us.
6.6.6

सsa चित्रcitra चित्रंcitraṃ चितयन्तमस्मेcitayantamasme चित्रक्षत्रcitrakṣatra चित्रतमंcitratamaṃ वयोधामvayodhām |

चन्द्रंcandraṃ रयिंrayiṃ पुरुवीरंpuruvīraṃ बर्हन्तंbṛhantaṃ चन्द्रcandra चन्द्राभिर्ग्र्णतेcandrābhirghṛṇate युवस्वyuvasva ||

Wondrous! of wondrous power! give to the singer wealth wondrous, marked, most wonderful, life-giving.
Wealth bright, O Bright One, vast, with many heroes, give with thy bright flames to the man who lauds thee.
6.6.7
