HYMN XI. AGNI.


महानस्यध्वरस्यmahānasyadhvarasya परकेतोpraketo नna रतेṛte तवदम्र्ताtvadamṛtā मादयन्तेmādayante |

आā विश्वेभिःviśvebhiḥ सरथंsarathaṃ याहिyāhi देवैर्न्यग्नेdevairnyaghne होताhotā परथमःprathamaḥ सदेहsadeha ||

GREAT art thou, Agni, sacrifice's Herald: not without thee are deathless Gods made joyful.
Come hither with all Deities about thee here take thy seat, the first, as Priest, O Agni.
7.11.1

तवामीळतेtvāmīḷate अजिरंajiraṃ दूत्यायdūtyāya हविष्मन्तःhaviṣmantaḥ सदमिनsadamin मानुषासःmānuṣāsaḥ |

यस्यyasya देवैरासदोdevairāsado बर्हिरग्ने.अहान्यस्मैbarhiraghne.ahānyasmai सुदिनाsudinā भवन्तिbhavanti ||

Men with oblations evermore entreat thee, the swift, to undertake an envoy's duty.
He on whose sacred grass with Gods thou sittest, to him, O Agni, are the days propitious.
7.11.2

तरिश्चिदक्तोःtriścidaktoḥ परpra चिकितुर्वसूनिcikiturvasūni तवेtve अन्तर्दाशुषेantardāśuṣe मर्त्यायmartyāya |

मनुष्वदग्नmanuṣvadaghna इहiha यक्षिyakṣi देवानdevān भवाbhavā नोno दूतोdūto अधिशस्तिपावाadhiśastipāvā ||

Three times a day in thee are shown the treasures sent for the mortal who presents oblation.
Bring the Gods hither like a man, O Agni: be thou our envoy, guarding us from curses.
7.11.3

अग्निरीशेaghnirīśe बर्हतोbṛhato अध्वरस्याग्निर्विश्वस्यadhvarasyāghnirviśvasya हविषःhaviṣaḥ कर्तस्यkṛtasya |

करतुंkratuṃ हयस्यhyasya वसवोvasavo जुषन्ताथाjuṣantāthā देवाdevā दधिरेdadhire हव्यवाहमhavyavāham ||

Lord of the lofty sacrifice is Agni, Agni is Lord of every gift presented.
The Vasus were contented with his wisdom, so the Gods made him their oblationbearer.
7.11.4

आग्नेāghne वहvaha हविरद्यायhaviradyāya देवानिन्द्रज्येष्ठासdevānindrajyeṣṭhāsa इहiha मादयन्तामmādayantām |

इमंimaṃ यज्ञंyajñaṃ दिविdivi देवेषुdeveṣu धेहिdhehi यूयंyūyaṃ पातpāta ...... ||

O Agni, bring the Gods to taste our presents: with Indra leading, here let them be joyful.
Convey this sacrifice to Gods in heaven. Ye Gods, preserve us evermore with blessings.
