HYMN VI. AGNI.


परpra सम्राजोsamrājo असुरस्यasurasya परशस्तिंpraśastiṃ पुंसःpuṃsaḥ कर्ष्टीनामनुमाद्यस्यkṛṣṭīnāmanumādyasya |

इन्द्रस्येवindrasyeva परpra तवससtavasas कर्तानिkṛtāni वन्देvande दारुंdāruṃ वन्दमानोविवक्मिvandamānovivakmi ||

PRAISE of the Asura, high imperial Ruler, the Manly One in whom the folk shall triumph-
I laud his deeds who is as strong as Indra, and lauding celebrate the Fort-destroyer.
7.6.1

कविंkaviṃ केतुंketuṃ धासिंdhāsiṃ भानुमद्रेर्हिन्वन्तिbhānumadrerhinvanti शंśaṃ राज्यंrājyaṃ रोदस्योःrodasyoḥ |

पुरन्दरस्यpurandarasya गीर्भिराghīrbhirā विवासे.अग्नेर्व्रतानिvivāse.aghnervratāni पूर्व्याpūrvyā महानिmahāni ||

Sage, Sing, Food, Light,—they bring him from the mountain, the blessed Sovran of the earth and heaven.
I decorate with songs the mighty actions which Agni, Fort-destroyer, did aforetime.
7.6.2

नयक्रतूनnyakratūn गरथिनोghrathino मर्ध्रवाचःmṛdhravācaḥ पणीन्रश्रद्धानव्र्धानयज्ञानpaṇīnraśraddhānavṛdhānayajñān |

पर-परpra-pra तानtān दस्यून्रग्निर्विवायdasyūnraghnirvivāya पूर्वश्चकारापरानयज्यूनpūrvaścakārāparānayajyūn ||

The foolish, faithless, rudely-speaking niggards, without belief or sacrifice or worship,—
Far far sway hath Agni chased those Dasytis, and, in the cast, hath turned the godless westward.
7.6.3

योyo अपाचीनेapācīne तमसिtamasi मदन्तीःmadantīḥ पराचीश्चकारprācīścakāra नर्तमःnṛtamaḥ शचीभिःśacībhiḥ |

तमीशानंtamīśānaṃ वस्वोvasvo अग्निंaghniṃ गर्णीषे.अनानतंghṛṇīṣe.anānataṃ दमयन्तंdamayantaṃ पर्तन्यूनpṛtanyūn ||

Him who brought eastward, manliest with his prowess, the Maids rejoicing in the western darkness,
That Agni I extol, the Lord of riches, unyielding tamer of assailing foemen.
7.6.4

योyo देह्योdehyo अनमयदanamayad वधस्नैर्योvadhasnairyo अर्यपत्नीरुषसश्चकारaryapatnīruṣasaścakāra |

सsa निरुध्याnirudhyā नहुषोnahuṣo यज्वोyajvo अग्निर्विशश्चक्रेaghnirviśaścakre बलिह्र्तःbalihṛtaḥ सहोभिःsahobhiḥ ||

Him who brake down the walls with deadly weapons, and gave the Mornings to anoble Husband,
Young Agni, who with conquering strength subduing the tribes of Nahus made them bring their tribute.
7.6.5

यस्यyasya शर्मन्नुपśarmannupa विश्वेviśve जनासjanāsa एवैस्तस्थुःevaistasthuḥ सुमतिंsumatiṃ भिक्षमाणाःbhikṣamāṇāḥ |

वैश्वानरोvaiśvānaro वरमाvaramā रोदस्योराग्निःrodasyorāghniḥ ससादsasāda पित्रोरुपस्थमpitrorupastham ||

In whose protection all men rest by nature, desiring to enjoy his gracious favour-
Agni Vaiśvānara in his Parents, bosom hath found the choicest seat in earth and heaven.
7.6.6

आā देवोdevo ददेdade बुध्न्याbudhnyā वसूनिvasūni वैश्वानरvaiśvānara उदिताuditā सूर्यस्यsūryasya |

आā समुद्रादवरादाsamudrādavarādā परस्मादाग्निर्ददेparasmādāghnirdade दिवdiva आā पर्थिव्याःpṛthivyāḥ ||

Vaiśvānara the God, at the sun's setting, hath taken to himself deep-hidden treasures:
Agni hath taken them from earth and heaven, from the sea under and the sea above us.
