सर्गोsargho नna सर्ष्टोsṛṣṭo अर्वतीरतायञ्चकारarvatīrtāyañcakāra महीरवनीरहभ्यःmahīravanīrahabhyaḥ ||
VARUNA cut a pathway out for Sūrya, and led the watery floods of rivers onward.
The Mares, as in a race, speed on in order. He made great channels for the days to follow.
7.87.1
आत्माātmā तेte वातोvāto रजraja आā नवीनोतnavīnot पशुर्नpaśurna भूर्णिर्यवसेbhūrṇiryavase ससवानsasavān |

अन्तर्महीantarmahī बर्हतीbṛhatī रोदसीमेrodasīme विश्वाviśvā तेte धामdhāma वरुणvaruṇa परियाणिpriyāṇi ||
The wind, thy breath, hath sounded through the region like a wild beast that seeks his food in pastures.
Within these two, exalted Earth and Heaven, O Varuṇa, are all the forms thou lovest.
7.87.2
परिpari सपशोspaśo वरुणस्यvaruṇasya समदिष्टाsmadiṣṭā उभेubhe पश्यन्तिpaśyanti रोदसीrodasī सुमेकेsumeke |

रतावानःṛtāvānaḥ कवयोkavayo यज्ञधीराःyajñadhīrāḥ परचेतसोpracetaso यya इषयन्तiṣayanta मन्मmanma ||
Varuṇa's spies, sent forth upon their errand, survey the two world-halves well formed and fashioned.
Wise are they, holy, skilled in sacrifices, the furtherers of the praise-songs of the prudent.
7.87.3
उवाचuvāca मेme वरुणोvaruṇo मेधिरायmedhirāya तरिःtriḥ सप्तsapta नामाघ्न्याnāmāghnyā बिभर्तिbibharti |

विद्वानvidvān पदस्यpadasya गुह्याghuhyā नna वोचदvocad युगायyughāya विप्रvipra उपरायuparāya शिक्षनśikṣan ||
To me who understand hath Varuṇa spoken, the names borne by the Cow are three times seven.
The sapient God, knowing the place's secret, shall speak as ’twere to teach the race that cometh.
7.87.4
तिस्रोtisro दयावोdyāvo निहिताnihitā अन्तरस्मिनantarasmin तिस्रोtisro भूमीरुपराःbhūmīruparāḥ षड्विधानाःṣaḍvidhānāḥ |

गर्त्सोghṛtso राजाrājā वरुणश्चक्रvaruṇaścakra एतंetaṃ दिविdivi परेङखंहिरण्ययंpreṅkhaṃhiraṇyayaṃ शुभेśubhe कमkam ||
On him three heavens rest and are supported, and the three earths are there in sixfold order.
The wise King Varuṇa hath made in heaven that Golden Swing to cover it with glory.
7.87.5
अवava सिन्धुंsindhuṃ वरुणोvaruṇo दयौरिवdyauriva सथादsthād दरप्सोdrapso नna शवेतोśveto मर्गस्तुविष्मानmṛghastuviṣmān |

गम्भीरशंसोghambhīraśaṃso रजसोrajaso विमानःvimānaḥ सुपारक्षत्रःsupārakṣatraḥ सतोsato अस्यasya राजाrājā ||
Like Varuṇa from heaven he sinks in Sindhu, like a white-shining spark, a strong wild creature.
Ruling in depths and meting out the region, great saving power hath he, this world's Controller.
7.87.6
योyo मर्ळयातिmṛḷayāti चक्रुषेcakruṣe चिदागोcidāgho वयंvayaṃ सयामsyāma वरुणेvaruṇe अनागाःanāghāḥ |

अनुanu वरतान्यदितेरधन्तोvratānyaditerdhanto यूयंyūyaṃ पातpāta ...... ||
Before this Varuṇa may we be sinless him who shows mercy even to the sinner-
While we are keeping Aditi's ordinances. Preserve us evermore, ye Gods, with blessings.
