इमेime विप्रस्यviprasya वेधसो.अग्नेरस्त्र्तयज्वनःvedhaso.aghnerastṛtayajvanaḥ |

गिरःghiraḥ सतोमासstomāsa ईरतेīrate ||
THESE songs of mine go forth as lauds of Agni, the disposing Sage,
Whose worshipper is ne’er o’erthrown.
8.43.1
अस्मैasmai तेte परतिहर्यतेpratiharyate जातवेदोjātavedo विचर्षणेvicarṣaṇe |

अग्नेaghne जनामिjanāmi सुष्टुतिमsuṣṭutim ||
Wise Agni Jātavedas, I beget a song of praise for thee.
Who willingly receivest it.
8.43.2
आरोकाārokā इवiva घेदहghedaha तिग्माtighmā अग्नेaghne तवtava तविषःtviṣaḥ |

दद्भिर्वनानिdadbhirvanāni बप्सतिbapsati ||
Thy sharpened flames, O Agni, like the gleams of light that glitter through,
Devour the forests with their teeth.
8.43.3
हरयोharayo धूमकेतवोdhūmaketavo वातजूताvātajūtā उपupa दयविdyavi |

यतन्तेyatante वर्थगग्नयःvṛthaghaghnayaḥ ||
Gold-coloured, bannered with the smoke, urged by the wind, aloft to heaven
Rise, lightly borne, the flames of fire.
8.43.4
एतेete तयेtye वर्थगग्नयvṛthaghaghnaya इद्धासःiddhāsaḥ समद्र्क्षतsamadṛkṣata |

उषसामिवuṣasāmiva केतवःketavaḥ ||
These lightly kindled fiery flames are all around made visible,
Even as the gleanings of the Dawns.
8.43.5
कर्ष्णाkṛṣṇā रजांसिrajāṃsi पत्सुतःpatsutaḥ परयाणेprayāṇe जातवेदसःjātavedasaḥ |

अग्निर्यदaghniryad रोधतिrodhati कषमिkṣami ||
As Jātavedas speeds along, the dust is black beneath his feet,
When Agni spreads upon the earth.
8.43.6
धासिंdhāsiṃ कर्ण्वानkṛṇvāna ओषधीर्बप्सदग्निर्नoṣadhīrbapsadaghnirna वायतिvāyati |

पुनर्यनpunaryan तरुणीरपिtaruṇīrapi ||
Making the plants his nourishment, Agni devours and wearies not,
Seeking the tender shrubs again.
8.43.7
जिह्वाभिरहjihvābhiraha नन्नमदर्चिषाnannamadarciṣā जञ्जणाभवनjañjaṇābhavan |

अग्निर्वनेषुaghnirvaneṣu रोचतेrocate ||
Bending him down with all his tongues, he flickers with his fiery glow
Splendid is Agni in the woods.
8.43.8
अप्स्वग्नेapsvaghne सधिषsadhiṣ टवṭava सौशधीरनुsauśadhīranu रुध्यसेrudhyase |

गर्भेgharbhe सञ्जायसेsañjāyase पुनःpunaḥ ||
Agni, thine home is in the floods: into the plants thou forcest way,
And as their Child art born anew.
8.43.9
उदग्नेudaghne तवtava तदtad घर्तादर्चीghṛtādarcī रोचतrocata आहुतमāhutam |

निंसानंniṃsānaṃ जुह्वोjuhvo मुखेmukhe ||
Worshipped with offerings shines thy flame, O Agni, from the sacred oil,
With kisses on the ladle's mouth.
8.43.10
उक्षान्नायukṣānnāya वशान्नायvaśānnāya सोमप्र्ष्ठायsomapṛṣṭhāya वेधसेvedhase |

सतोमैर्विधेमाग्नयेstomairvidhemāghnaye ||
Let us serve Agni with our hymns, Disposer, fed on ox and cow,
Who bears the Soma on his back.
8.43.11
उतuta तवाtvā नमसाnamasā वयंvayaṃ होतर्वरेण्यक्रतोhotarvareṇyakrato |

अग्नेaghne समिद्भिरीमहेsamidbhirīmahe ||
Yea, thee, O Agni, do we seek with homage and with fuel, Priest
Whose wisdom is most excellent.
8.43.12
उतuta तवाtvā भर्गुवच्छुचेbhṛghuvacchuce मनुष्वदग्नmanuṣvadaghna आहुतāhuta |

अङगिरस्वदaṅghirasvad धवामहेdhavāmahe ||
O worshipped with oblations, pure Agni, we call on thee as erst,
Did Bhṛgu, Manus, Aṅgiras.
8.43.13
तवंtvaṃ हयग्नेhyaghne अग्निनाaghninā विप्रोvipro विप्रेणvipreṇa सनsan सताsatā |

सखाsakhā सख्याsakhyā समिध्यसेsamidhyase ||
For thou, O Agni, by the fire, Sage by the Sage, Good by the Good,
Friend by the Friend, art lighted up.
8.43.14
सsa तवंtvaṃ विप्रायviprāya दाशुषेdāśuṣe रयिंrayiṃ देहिdehi सहस्रिणमsahasriṇam |

अग्नेaghne वीरवतीमिषमvīravatīmiṣam ||
So wealth in thousands, food with store of heroes give thou to the sage,
O Agni, to the worshipper.
8.43.15
अग्नेaghne भरातःbhrātaḥ सहस्क्र्तsahaskṛta रोहिदश्वrohidaśva शुचिव्रतśucivrata |

इमंimaṃ सतोमंजुषस्वstomaṃjuṣasva मेme ||
O Agni, Brother, made by strength, Lord of red steeds and brilliant sway,
Take pleasure in this laud of mine.
8.43.16
उतuta तवाग्नेtvāghne ममmama सतुतोstuto वाश्रायvāśrāya परतिहर्यतेpratiharyate |

गोष्ठंghoṣṭhaṃ गावghāva इवाशतivāśata ||
My praises, Agni, go to thee, as the cows seek the stall to meet,
The lowing calf that longs for milk.
8.43.17
तुभ्यंtubhyaṃ ताtā अङगिरस्तमaṅghirastama विश्वाःviśvāḥ सुक्षितयःsukṣitayaḥ पर्थकpṛthak |

अग्नेaghne कामायkāmāya येमिरेyemire ||
Agni, best Aṅgiras, to thee all people who have pleasant homes,
Apart, have turned as to their wish.
8.43.18
अग्निंaghniṃ धीभिर्मनीषिणोdhībhirmanīṣiṇo मेधिरासोmedhirāso विपश्चितःvipaścitaḥ |

अद्मसद्यायadmasadyāya हिन्विरेhinvire ||
The sages skilled in holy song and thinkers with their thoughts have urged
Agni to share the sacred feast.
8.43.19
तंtaṃ तवामज्मेषुtvāmajmeṣu वाजिनंvājinaṃ तन्वानाtanvānā अग्नेaghne अध्वरमadhvaram |

वह्निंहोतारमीळतेvahniṃhotāramīḷate ||
So, Agni, unto thee the Priest, Invoker, strong in forays, pray
Those who spin out the sacrifice.
8.43.20
पुरुत्राpurutrā हिhi सद्रंंsadṛṃṃ असिasi विशोviśo विश्वाviśvā अनुanu परभुःprabhuḥ |

समत्सुत्वाsamatsutvā हवामहेhavāmahe ||
In many a place, the same in look art thou, a Prince o’er all the tribes
In battles we invoke thine aid.
8.43.21
तमीळिष्वtamīḷiṣva यya आहुतो.अग्निर्विभ्राजतेāhuto.aghnirvibhrājate घर्तैःghṛtaiḥ |

इमंimaṃ नःश्र्णवदnaḥśṛṇavad धवमdhavam ||
Pray thou to Agni, pray to him who blazes served with sacred oil:
Let him give ear to this our call.
8.43.22
तंtaṃ तवाtvā वयंvayaṃ हवामहेhavāmahe शर्ण्वन्तंśṛṇvantaṃ जातवेदसमjātavedasam |

अग्नेaghne घनन्तमपghnantamapa दविषःdviṣaḥ ||
We call on thee as such, as one who hears, as Jātavedas, one,
Agni! who beats away our foes.
8.43.23
विशांviśāṃ राजानमद्भुतमध्यक्षंrājānamadbhutamadhyakṣaṃ धर्मणामिममdharmaṇāmimam |

अग्निमीळेaghnimīḷe सsa उu शरवतśravat ||
I pray to Agni, King of men, the Wonderful, the President
Of holy Laws: may he give ear.
8.43.24
अग्निंaghniṃ विश्वायुवेपसंviśvāyuvepasaṃ मर्यंmaryaṃ नna वाजिनंvājinaṃ हितमhitam |

सप्तिंsaptiṃ नna वाजयामसिvājayāmasi ||
Him like a bridegroom, him who stirs all people, like a noble horse,
Like a fleet steed, we instigate.
8.43.25
घननghnan मर्ध्राण्यपmṛdhrāṇyapa दविषोdviṣo दहनdahan रक्षांसिrakṣāṃsi विश्वहाviśvahā |

अग्नेतिग्मेनaghnetighmena दीदिहिdīdihi ||
Slaying things deadly, burning up foes, Rākṣasas, on every side,
Shine, Agni, with thy sharpened flame.
8.43.26
यंyaṃ तवाtvā जनासjanāsa इन्धतेindhate मनुष्वदङगिरस्तमmanuṣvadaṅghirastama |

अग्नेaghne सsa बोधिमेbodhime वचःvacaḥ ||
Thou whom the people kindle even as Manus did, best Aṅgiras!
O Agni, mark thou this my speech.
8.43.27
यदग्नेyadaghne दिविजाdivijā अस्यप्सुजाasyapsujā वाvā सहस्क्र्तsahaskṛta |

तंtaṃ तवाtvā गीर्भिर्हवामहेghīrbhirhavāmahe ||
O Agni, made by strength! be thou born in the heavens or born in floods,
As such we call on thee with songs.
8.43.28
तुभ्यंtubhyaṃ घेतghet तेte जनाjanā इमेime विश्वाःviśvāḥ सुक्षितयःsukṣitayaḥ पर्थकpṛthak |

धासिंdhāsiṃ हिन्वन्त्यत्तवेhinvantyattave ||
Yea, all the people, all the folk who have good dwellings, each apart,
Send food for thee to eat thereof.
8.43.29
तेte घेदग्नेghedaghne सवाध्यो.अहाsvādhyo.ahā विश्वाviśvā नर्चक्षसःnṛcakṣasaḥ |

तरन्तःtarantaḥ सयामsyāma दुर्गहाdurghahā ||
O Agni, so may we, devout, gazed at by men, throughout our days,
Pass lightly over all distress.
8.43.30
अग्निंaghniṃ मन्द्रंmandraṃ पुरुप्रियंpurupriyaṃ शीरंśīraṃ पावकशोचिषमpāvakaśociṣam |

हर्द्भिर्मन्द्रेभिरीमहेhṛdbhirmandrebhirīmahe ||
We venerate with cheerful hearts the cheerful Agni, dear to all,
Burning, with purifying flame.
8.43.31
सsa तवमग्नेtvamaghne विभावसुःvibhāvasuḥ सर्जनsṛjan सूर्योsūryo नna रश्मिभिःraśmibhiḥ |

शर्धनśardhan तमांसिtamāṃsi जिघ्नसेjighnase ||
So thou, O Agni rich in light, beaming like Sūrya with thy rays
Boldly demolishest the gloom,
8.43.32
ततtat तेte सहस्वsahasva ईमहेīmahe दात्रंdātraṃ यनyan नोपदस्यतिnopadasyati |

तवदग्नेtvadaghne वार्यंvāryaṃ वसुvasu ||
We pray to thee for this thy gift, Victor the gift that faileth not,
O Agni, choicest wealth from thee.
