महानिन्द्रोmahānindro यya ओजसाojasā पर्जन्योparjanyo वर्ष्टिमानिवvṛṣṭimāniva |

सतोमैर्वत्सस्यstomairvatsasya वाव्र्धेvāvṛdhe ||
INDRA, great in his power and might, and like Parjanya rich in rain,
Is magnified by Vatsa's lauds.
8.6.1
परजांprajāṃ रतस्यṛtasya पिप्रतःpiprataḥ परpra यदyad भरन्तbharanta वह्नयःvahnayaḥ |

विप्राviprā रतस्यṛtasya वाहसाvāhasā ||
When the priests, strengthening the Son of Holy Law, present their gifts,
Singers with Order's hymn of praiser.
8.6.2
कण्वाkaṇvā इन्द्रंindraṃ यदक्रतyadakrata सतोमैर्यज्ञस्यstomairyajñasya साधनमsādhanam |

जामिब्रुवतjāmibruvata आयुधमāyudham ||
Since Kaṇvas with their lauds have made Indra complete the sacrifice.
Words are their own appropriate arms.
8.6.3
समस्यsamasya मन्यवेmanyave विशोviśo विश्वाviśvā नमन्तnamanta कर्ष्टयःkṛṣṭayaḥ |

समुद्रायेवsamudrāyeva सिन्धवःsindhavaḥ ||
Before his hot displeasure all the peoples, all the men, bow down,
As rivers bow them to the sea.
8.6.4
ओजस्तदस्यojastadasya तित्विषtitviṣa उभेubhe यदyad समवर्तयतsamavartayat |

इन्द्रश्चर्मेवरोदसीindraścarmevarodasī ||
This power of his shone brightly forth when Indra brought together, like
A skin, the worlds of heaven and earth.
8.6.5
विvi चिदcid वर्त्रस्यvṛtrasya दोधतोdodhato वज्रेणvajreṇa शतपर्वणाśataparvaṇā |

शिरोśiro बिभेदव्र्ष्णिनाbibhedavṛṣṇinā ||
The fiercely-moving Vṛtra's head he severed with his thunderbolt,
His mighty hundred-knotted bolt.
8.6.6
इमाimā अभिabhi परpra णोनुमोṇonumo विपामग्रेषुvipāmaghreṣu धीतयःdhītayaḥ |

अग्नेःaghneḥ शोचिर्नśocirna दिद्युतःdidyutaḥ ||
Here are-we sing them loudly forth-our thoughts among-the best of songs.
Even lightnings like the blaze of fire.
8.6.7
गुहाghuhā सतीरुपsatīrupa तमनाtmanā परpra यच्छोचन्तyacchocanta धीतयःdhītayaḥ |

कण्वार्तस्यkaṇvāṛtasya धारयाdhārayā ||
When bidden thoughts, spontaneously advancing, glow, and with the stream
Of sacrifice the Kaṇvas shine.
8.6.8
परpra तमिन्द्रtamindra नशीमहिnaśīmahi रयिंrayiṃ गोमन्तमश्विनमghomantamaśvinam |

परpra बरह्मपूर्वचित्तयेbrahmapūrvacittaye ||
Indra, may we obtain that wealth in horses and in herds of cows,
And prayer that may be noticed first.
8.6.9
अहमिदahamid धिdhi पितुषpituṣ परिpari मेधांmedhāṃ रतस्यṛtasya जग्रभjaghrabha |

अहंahaṃ सूर्यsūrya इवाजनिivājani ||
I from my Father have received deep knowledge of the Holy Law
I was born like unto the Sun.
8.6.10
अहंahaṃ परत्नेनpratnena मन्मनाmanmanā गिरःghiraḥ शुम्भामिśumbhāmi कण्ववतkaṇvavat |

येनेन्द्रःशुष्ममिदyenendraḥśuṣmamid दधेdadhe ||
After the lore of ancient time I make, like Kaṇva, beauteous songs,
And Indra's selfgains strength thereby.
8.6.11
येye तवामिन्द्रtvāmindra नna तुष्टुवुरषयोtuṣṭuvurṣayo येye चca तुष्टुवुःtuṣṭuvuḥ |

ममेद्वर्धस्वmamedvardhasva सुष्टुतःsuṣṭutaḥ ||
Whatever Ṛṣis have not praised thee, Indra, or have lauded thee,
By me exalted wax thou strong.
8.6.12
यदस्यyadasya मन्युरध्वनीदmanyuradhvanīd विvi वर्त्रंvṛtraṃ पर्वशोparvaśo रुजनrujan |

अपःapaḥ समुद्रमैरयतsamudramairayat ||
When his wrath thundered, when he rent Vṛtra to pieces, limb by limb,
He sent the waters to the sea.
8.6.13
निni शुष्णśuṣṇa इन्द्रindra धर्णसिंdharṇasiṃ वज्रंvajraṃ जघन्थjaghantha दस्यविdasyavi |

वर्षाह्युग्रvṛṣāhyughra शर्ण्विषेśṛṇviṣe ||
Against the Dasyu gusna thou, Indra, didst hurl thy during bolt:
Thou, Dread one, hast a hero's fame.
8.6.14
नna दयावdyāva इन्द्रमोजसाindramojasā नान्तरिक्षाणिnāntarikṣāṇi वज्रिणमvajriṇam |

नna विव्यचन्तvivyacanta भूमयःbhūmayaḥ ||
Neither the heavens nor firmaments nor regions of the earth contain
Indra, the Thunderer with his might.
8.6.15
यस्तyasta इन्द्रindra महीरपmahīrapa सतभूयमानstabhūyamāna आशयतāśayat |

निni तंtaṃ पद्यासुpadyāsu शिश्नथःśiśnathaḥ ||
O Indra him who lay at length staying thy copious waters thou,
In his own footsteps, smotest down
8.6.16
यya इमेime रोदसीrodasī महीmahī समीचीsamīcī समजग्रभीतsamajaghrabhīt |

तमोभिरिन्द्रtamobhirindra तंtaṃ गुहःghuhaḥ ||
Thou hiddest deep in darkness itim, O Indra, who had set his grasp
On spacious heaven and earth conjoined.
8.6.17
यya इन्द्रindra यतयस्त्वाyatayastvā भर्गवोbhṛghavo येye चca तुष्टुवुःtuṣṭuvuḥ |

ममेदुग्रmamedughra शरुधीśrudhī हवमhavam ||
Indra, whatever Yatis and Bhṛgus have offered praise to thee,
Listen, thou Mighty, to my call.
8.6.18
इमास्तimāsta इन्द्रindra पर्श्नयोpṛśnayo घर्तंghṛtaṃ दुहतduhata आशिरमāśiram |

एनांenāṃ रतस्यṛtasya पिप्युषीःpipyuṣīḥ ||
Indra, these spotted cows yield thee their butter and the milky draught;
Aiders, thereby, of sacrifice;
8.6.19
याyā इन्द्रindra परस्वस्त्वासाprasvastvāsā गर्भमचक्रिरनgharbhamacakriran |

परिpari धर्मेवdharmeva सूर्यमsūryam ||
Which, teeming, have received thee as a life-germ, Indra, with their mouth,
Like Sūrya who sustaineth all.
8.6.20
तवामिच्छवससtvāmicchavasas पतेpate कण्वाkaṇvā उक्थेनukthena वाव्र्धुःvāvṛdhuḥ |

तवांtvāṃ सुतासsutāsa इन्दवःindavaḥ ||
O Lord of Might, with hymns of praise the Kaṇvas have increased thy power,
The drops poured forth have strengthened thee.
8.6.21
तवेदिन्द्रtavedindra परणीतिषूतpraṇītiṣūta परशस्तिरद्रिवःpraśastiradrivaḥ |

यज्ञोyajño वितन्तसाय्यःvitantasāyyaḥ ||
Under thy guidance, Indra, mid thy praises, Lord of Thunder, shall
The sacrifice be soon performed.
8.6.22
आā नna इन्द्रindra महीमिषंmahīmiṣaṃ पुरंpuraṃ नna दर्षिdarṣi गोमतीमghomatīm |

उतuta परजांprajāṃ सुवीर्यमsuvīryam ||
Indra, disclose much food for us, like a stronghold with store of kine:
Give progeny and heroic strength.
8.6.23
उतuta तयदाश्वश्व्यंtyadāśvaśvyaṃ यदिन्द्रyadindra नाहुषीष्वाnāhuṣīṣvā |

अग्रेaghre विक्षुप्रदीदयतvikṣupradīdayat ||
And, Indra, grant us all that wealth of fleet steeds which shone bright of old
Among the tribes of Nahusas.
8.6.24
अभिabhi वरजंvrajaṃ नna तत्निषेtatniṣe सूरsūra उपाकचक्षसमupākacakṣasam |

यदिन्द्रyadindra मर्ळयासिmṛḷayāsi नःnaḥ ||
Hither thou seemest to attract heaven's fold which shines before our eyes,
When, Indra, thou art kind to us.
8.6.25
यदङगyadaṅgha तविषीयसtaviṣīyasa इन्द्रindra परराजसिprarājasi कषितीःkṣitīḥ |

महानपारmahānapāra ओजसाojasā ||
Yea, when thou puttest forth thy power, Indra, thou governest the folk.
Mighty, unlimited in strength.
8.6.26
तंtaṃ तवाtvā हविष्मतीर्विशhaviṣmatīrviśa उपupa बरुवतbruvata ऊतयेūtaye |

उरुज्रयसमिन्दुभिःurujrayasamindubhiḥ ||
The tribes who bring oblations call to thee, to thee to give them help,
With drops to thee who spreadest far.
8.6.27
उपह्वरेupahvare गिरीणांghirīṇāṃ संगथेsaṃghathe चca नदीनामnadīnām |

धियाdhiyā विप्रोvipro अजायतajāyata ||
There where the mountains downward slope, there by the meeting of the streams
The Sage was manifest with song.
8.6.28
अतःataḥ समुद्रमुद्वतश्चिकित्वानवsamudramudvataścikitvānava पश्यतिpaśyati |

यतोyato विपानvipāna एजतिejati ||
Thence, marking, from his lofty place downward he looks upon the sea,
And thence with rapid stir he moves.
8.6.29
आदितādit परत्नस्यpratnasya रेतसोretaso जयोतिषjyotiṣ पश्यन्तिpaśyanti वासरमvāsaram |

परोparo यदिध्यतेyadidhyate दिवाdivā ||
Then, verify, they see the light refulgent of primeval seed,
Kindled on yonder side of heaven.
8.6.30
कण्वासkaṇvāsa इन्द्रindra तेte मतिंmatiṃ विश्वेviśve वर्धन्तिvardhanti पौंस्यमpauṃsyam |

उतोuto शविष्ठśaviṣṭha वर्ष्ण्यमvṛṣṇyam ||
Indra, the Kaṇvas all exalt thy wisdom and thy manly power,
And, Mightiest! thine heroic strength.
8.6.31
इमांimāṃ मma इन्द्रindra सुष्टुतिंsuṣṭutiṃ जुषस्वjuṣasva परpra सुsu मामवmāmava |

उतuta परवर्धयाpravardhayā मतिमmatim ||
Accept this eulogy of mine, Indra, and guard me carefully:
Strengthen my thought and prosper it.
8.6.32
उतuta बरह्मण्याbrahmaṇyā वयंvayaṃ तुभ्यंtubhyaṃ परव्र्द्धpravṛddha वज्रिवःvajrivaḥ |

विप्राviprā अतक्ष्मatakṣma जीवसेjīvase ||
For thee, O Mighty, Thunder-armed, we singers through devotionhave
Fashioned the hymn that we may live.
8.6.33
अभिabhi कण्वाkaṇvā अनूषतापोanūṣatāpo नna परवताpravatā यतीःyatīḥ |

इन्द्रंindraṃ वनन्वतीvananvatī मतिःmatiḥ ||
To Indra have the Kaṇvas sung, like waters speeding down a slope:
The song is fain to go to him.
8.6.34
इन्द्रमुक्थानिindramukthāni वाव्र्धुःvāvṛdhuḥ समुद्रमिवsamudramiva सिन्धवःsindhavaḥ |

अनुत्तमन्युमजरमanuttamanyumajaram ||
As rivers swell the ocean, so our hymns of praise make Indra strong,
Eternal, of resistIess wrath.
8.6.35
आā नोno याहिyāhi परावतोparāvato हरिभ्यांharibhyāṃ हर्यताभ्यामharyatābhyām |

इममिन्द्रimamindra सुतंsutaṃ पिबpiba ||
Come with thy lovely Bay Steeds, come to us from regions far away
O Indra, drink this Soma juice.
8.6.36
तवामिदtvāmid वर्त्रहन्तमvṛtrahantama जनासोjanāso वर्क्तबर्हिषःvṛktabarhiṣaḥ |

हवन्तेhavante वाजसातयेvājasātaye ||
Best slayer of Vṛtras, men whose sacred grass is ready trimmed
Invoke thee for the gain of spoil.
8.6.37
अनुanu तवाtvā रोदसीrodasī उभेubhe चक्रंcakraṃ नna वर्त्येतशमvartyetaśam |

अनुanu सुवानासsuvānāsa इन्दवःindavaḥ ||
The heavens and earth come after thee as the wheel follows Etaśa:
To thee flow Soma-drops effused.
8.6.38
मन्दस्वाmandasvā सुsu सवर्णरsvarṇara उतेन्द्रutendra शर्यणावतिśaryaṇāvati |

मत्स्वाmatsvā विवस्वतोvivasvato मतीmatī ||
Rejoice, O Indra, in the light, rejoice in Saryandyan, be Glad in the sacrificer's hymn.
8.6.39
वाव्र्धानvāvṛdhāna उपupa दयविdyavi वर्षाvṛṣā वज्र्यरोरवीतvajryaroravīt |

वर्त्रहाvṛtrahā सोमपातमःsomapātamaḥ ||
Grown strong in heaven, the Thunder-armed hath bellowed, Vṛtra-slayer, Bull,
Chief drinker of the Soma juice.
8.6.40
रषिर्हिṛṣirhi पूर्वजाpūrvajā अस्येकasyeka ईशानīśāna ओजसाojasā |

इन्द्रindra चोष्कूयसेcoṣkūyase वसुvasu ||
Thou art a Ṛṣi born of old, sole Ruler over all by might:
Thou, Indra, guardest well our wealth.
8.6.41
अस्माकंasmākaṃ तवाtvā सुतानुपsutānupa वीतप्र्ष्ठाvītapṛṣṭhā अभिabhi परयःprayaḥ |

शतंवहन्तुśataṃvahantu हरयःharayaḥ ||
May thy Bay Steeds with beauteous backs, a hundred, bring thee to the feast,
Bring thee to these our Soma-draughts.
8.6.42
इमांimāṃ सुsu पूर्व्यांpūrvyāṃ धियंdhiyaṃ मधोर्घ्र्तस्यmadhorghṛtasya पिप्युषीमpipyuṣīm |

कण्वाkaṇvā उक्थेनukthena वाव्र्धुःvāvṛdhuḥ ||
The Kaṇvas with their hymns of praise have magnified this ancient thought
That swells with streams of meath and oil.
8.6.43
इन्द्रमिदindramid विमहीनांvimahīnāṃ मेधेmedhe वर्णीतvṛṇīta मर्त्यःmartyaḥ |

इन्द्रंindraṃ सनिष्युरूतयेsaniṣyurūtaye ||
Mid mightiest Gods let mortal man choose Indra at the sacrifice,
Indra, whoe’er would win, for help.
8.6.44
अर्वाञ्चंarvāñcaṃ तवाtvā पुरुष्टुतpuruṣṭuta परियमेधस्तुताpriyamedhastutā हरीharī |

सोमपेयायवक्षतःsomapeyāyavakṣataḥ ||
Thy steeds, by Priyamedhas praised, shall bring thee, God whom all invoke,
Hither to drink the Somajuice.
8.6.45
शतमहंśatamahaṃ तिरिन्दिरेtirindire सहस्रंsahasraṃ पर्शावाparśāvā ददेdade |

राधांसियाद्वानामrādhāṃsiyādvānām ||
A hundred thousand have I gained from Parsu, from Tirindira,
And presents of the Yadavas.
8.6.46
तरीणिtrīṇi शतान्यर्वतांśatānyarvatāṃ सहस्राsahasrā दशdaśa गोनामghonām |

ददुषdaduṣ पज्रायpajrāya साम्नेsāmne ||
Ten thousand head of kine, and steeds three times a hundred they bestowed
On Pajra for the Sāma-song.
8.6.47
उदानटudānaṭ ककुहोkakuho दिवमुष्ट्राञ्चतुर्युजोdivamuṣṭrāñcaturyujo ददतdadat |

शरवसाśravasā याद्वंyādvaṃ जनमjanam ||
Kakuha hath reached up to heaven, bestowing buffaloes yoked in fours,
And matched in fame the Yadavas.
