HYMN XL SOMA PAVAMANA.


उपास्मैupāsmai गायताghāyatā नरःnaraḥ पवमानायेन्दवेpavamānāyendave |

अभिabhi देवांdevāṃ इयक्षतेiyakṣate ||

SING forth to Indu, O ye men, to him who is purified,
Fain to pay worship to the Gods.
9.11.1

अभिabhi तेte मधुनाmadhunā पयोpayo ऽथर्वाणो'tharvāṇo अशिश्रयुःaśiśrayuḥ |

देवंdevaṃ देवायdevāya देवयुdevayu ||

Together with thy pleasant juice the Atharvans have commingled milk,
Divine, devoted to the God.
9.11.2

सsa नःnaḥ पवस्वpavasva शंśaṃ गवेghave शंśaṃ जनायjanāya शमśam अर्वतेarvate |

शंśaṃ राजन्नrājann ओषधीभ्यःoṣadhībhyaḥ ||

Bring, by thy flowing, weal to kine, weal to the people, weal to steeds.
Weal, O thou King, to growing plants
9.11.3

बभ्रवेbabhrave नुnu सवतवसेsvatavase ऽरुणाय'ruṇāya दिविस्प्र्शेdivispṛśe |

सोमायsomāya गाथमghātham अर्चतarcata ||

Sing a praise-song to Soma brown of hue, of independent might.
The Red, who reaches up to heaven.
9.11.4

हस्तच्युतेभिरhastacyutebhir अद्रिभिःadribhiḥ सुतंsutaṃ सोममsomam पुनीतनpunītana |

मधावmadhāv आā धावताdhāvatā मधुmadhu ||

Purify Soma when effused with stones which bands move rapidly,
And pour the sweet milk in the meath.
9.11.5

नमसेदnamased उपupa सीदतsīdata दध्नेदdadhned अभिabhi शरीणीतनśrīṇītana |

इन्दुमindum इन्द्रेindre दधातनdadhātana ||

With humble homage draw ye nigh; blend the libation with the curds:
To Indra offer Indu up.
9.11.6

अमित्रहाamitrahā विचर्षणिःvicarṣaṇiḥ पवस्वpavasva सोमsoma शंśaṃ गवेghave |

देवेभ्योdevebhyo अनुकामक्र्तanukāmakṛt ||

Soma, foe-que chief o’er men, doing the will of pour forth
Prosperity upon our kine.
9.11.7

इन्द्रायindrāya सोमsoma पातवेpātave मदायmadāya परिpari षिच्यसेṣicyase |

मनश्चिनmanaścin मनससmanasas पतिःpatiḥ ||

Heart-knower, Sovran of the heart, thou art effused, O Soma, that Indra may drink thee and rejoice.
9.11.8

पवमानpavamāna सुवीर्यंsuvīryaṃ रयिंrayiṃ सोमsoma रिरीहिrirīhi नःnaḥ |

इन्दवindav इन्द्रेणindreṇa नोno युजाyujā ||

O Soma Pavamana, give us riches and heroic strength,—
Indu! with. Indra for ally.
