HYMN LXV. SOMA PAVAMANA.


हिन्वन्तिhinvanti सूरमुस्रयःsūramusrayaḥ सवसारोsvasāro जामयसjāmayas पतिमpatim |

महामिन्दुंmahāminduṃ महीयुवःmahīyuvaḥ ||

THE, glittering maids send Sūra forth, the glorious sisters, close-allied,
Send Indu forth, their mighty Lord.
9.65.1

पवमानpavamāna रुचा-रुचाrucā-rucā देवोdevo देवेभ्यसdevebhyas परिpari |

विश्वाviśvā वसून्याविशvasūnyāviśa ||

Pervade, O Pavamana, all our treasures with repeated light,
God, coming hither from the Gods.
9.65.2

आā पवमानpavamāna सुष्टुतिंsuṣṭutiṃ वर्ष्टिंvṛṣṭiṃ देवेभ्योdevebhyo दुवःduvaḥ |

इषेiṣe पवस्वpavasva संयतमsaṃyatam ||

Pour on us, Pavamana, rain, as service and rain praise for Gods:
Pour all to be our nourishment.
9.65.3

वर्षाvṛṣā हयसिhyasi भानुनाbhānunā दयुमन्तंdyumantaṃ तवाtvā हवामहेhavāmahe |

पवमानpavamāna सवाध्यःsvādhyaḥ ||

Thou art a Steer by lustre: we, O Pavamana, faithfully
Call upon thee the Splendid One.
9.65.4

आā पवस्वpavasva सुवीर्यंsuvīryaṃ मन्दमानःmandamānaḥ सवायुधsvāyudha |

इहोiho षविन्दवाṣvindavā गहिghahi ||

Do thou, rejoicing, nobly-armed! pour upon us heroic strength:
O Indu, come thou bitherward.
9.65.5

यदद्भिःyadadbhiḥ परिषिच्यसेpariṣicyase मर्ज्यमानोmṛjyamāno गभस्त्योःghabhastyoḥ |

दरुणाdruṇā सधस्थमश्नुषेsadhasthamaśnuṣe ||

When thou art cleansed with both the hands and dipped in waters, with the wood.
Thou comest to the gathering-place.
9.65.6

परpra सोमायsomāya वयश्ववतvyaśvavat पवमानायpavamānāya गायतghāyata |

महेmahe सहस्रचक्षसेsahasracakṣase ||

Sing forth your songs, as Vyaśva sang, to Soma Pavamana, to,
The Mighty One with thousand eyes;
9.65.7

यस्यyasya वर्णंvarṇaṃ मधुश्चुतंmadhuścutaṃ हरिंhariṃ हिन्वन्त्यद्रिभिःhinvantyadribhiḥ |

इन्दुमिन्द्रायindumindrāya पीतयेpītaye ||

Whose coloured sap they drive with stones, the yellow meath-distilling juice,
Indu for Indra, for his drink.
9.65.8

तस्यtasya तेte वाजिनोvājino वयंvayaṃ विश्वाviśvā धनानिdhanāni जिग्युषःjighyuṣaḥ |

सखित्वमाsakhitvamā वर्णीमहेvṛṇīmahe ||

We seek to gain the friendly love of thee that Strong and Mighty One,
Of thee the winner of all wealth.
9.65.9

वर्षाvṛṣā पवस्वpavasva धारयाdhārayā मरुत्वतेmarutvate चca मत्सरःmatsaraḥ |

विश्वाviśvā दधानdadhāna ओजसाojasā ||

Flow onward with thy stream, a Steer, inspiriting the Maruts’ Lord,
Winning all riches by thy might.
9.65.10

तंtaṃ तवाtvā धर्तारमोण्योःdhartāramoṇyoḥ पवमानpavamāna सवर्द्र्शमsvardṛśam |

हिन्वेhinve वाजेषुvājeṣu वाजिनमvājinam ||

I send thee forth to battle from the press, O Pavamana, Strong,
Sustainer, looker on the light.
9.65.11

अयाayā चित्तोcitto विपानयाvipānayā हरिःhariḥ पवस्वpavasva धारयाdhārayā |

युजंyujaṃ वाजेषुvājeṣu चोदयcodaya ||

Acknowledged by this song of mine, flow, tawny-coloured, with thy stream
Incite to battle thine ally.
9.65.12

आā नna इन्दोindo महीमिषंmahīmiṣaṃ पवस्वpavasva विश्वदर्शतःviśvadarśataḥ |

अस्मभ्यंasmabhyaṃ सोमsoma गातुवितghātuvit ||

O Indu, visible to all pour out for us abundant food:
Soma, be thou our prosperer.
9.65.13

आā कलशाkalaśā अनूषतेन्दोanūṣatendo धाराभिरोजसाdhārābhirojasā |

एन्द्रस्यendrasya पीतयेविशpītayeviśa ||

The pitchers, Indu, with thy streams have sung aloud in vigorous might
Enter them, and let Indra drink.
9.65.14

यस्यyasya तेte मद्यंmadyaṃ रसंrasaṃ तीव्रंtīvraṃ दुहन्त्यद्रिभिःduhantyadribhiḥ |

सsa पवस्वाभिमातिहाpavasvābhimātihā ||

O thou whose potent gladdening juice they milk out with the stones, flow on,
Destroyer of our enemies.
9.65.15

राजाrājā मेधाभिरीयतेmedhābhirīyate पवमानोpavamāno मनावधिmanāvadhi |

अन्तरिक्षेणantarikṣeṇa यातवेyātave ||

King Pavamana is implored with holy songs, on man's behalf,
To travel through the firmament.
9.65.16

आā नna इन्दोindo शतग्विनंśataghvinaṃ गवांghavāṃ पोषंpoṣaṃ सवश्व्यमsvaśvyam |

वहाvahā भगत्तिमूतयेbhaghattimūtaye ||

Bring us, O Indu, hundredfold increase of kine, and noble steeds,
The gift of fortune for our help.
9.65.17

आā नःnaḥ सोमsoma सहोsaho जुवोjuvo रूपंrūpaṃ नna वर्चसेvarcase भरbhara |

सुष्वाणोsuṣvāṇo देववीतयेdevavītaye ||

Pressed for the banquet of the Gods, O Soma, bring us might, and speed,
Like beauty for a brilliant show.
9.65.18

अर्षाarṣā सोमsoma दयुमत्तमो.अभिdyumattamo.abhi दरोणानिdroṇāni रोरुवतroruvat |

सीदञ्छ्येनोनsīdañchyenona योनिमाyonimā ||

Soma, flow on exceeding bright with loud roar to the wooden vats,
Falcon-like resting in thine home.
9.65.19

अप्साapsā इन्द्रायindrāya वायवेvāyave वरुणायvaruṇāya मरुद्भ्यःmarudbhyaḥ |

सोमोsomo अर्षतिarṣati विष्णवेviṣṇave ||

Soma, the Water-winner flows to Indra, Vāyu, Varuṇa,
To Viṣṇu and the Marut host.
9.65.20

इषंiṣaṃ तोकायtokāya नोno दधदस्मभ्यंdadhadasmabhyaṃ सोमsoma विश्वतःviśvataḥ |

आā पवस्वसहस्रिणमpavasvasahasriṇam ||

Soma , bestowing food upon our progeny, from every sides,
Pour on us riches thousandfold
9.65.21

येye सोमासःsomāsaḥ परावतिparāvati येye अर्वावतिarvāvati सुन्विरेsunvire |

येye वादःvādaḥ शर्यणावतिśaryaṇāvati ||

The Soma juices which have been expressed afar or near at hand,
Or there on Śaryaṇāvān's bank,
9.65.22

यya आर्जीकेषुārjīkeṣu कर्त्वसुkṛtvasu येye मध्येmadhye पस्त्यानामpastyānām |

येye वाvā जनेषुपञ्चसुjaneṣupañcasu ||

Those pressed among Arjikas, pressed among the active, in men's homes,
Or pressed among the Races Five-
9.65.23

तेte नोno वर्ष्टिंvṛṣṭiṃ दिवसdivas परिpari पवन्तामाpavantāmā सुवीर्यमsuvīryam |

सुवानाsuvānā देवासdevāsa इन्दवःindavaḥ ||

May these celestial drops, expressed, pour forth upon us, as they flow,
Rain from the heavens apd hero strength.
9.65.24

पवतेpavate हर्यतोharyato हरिर्ग्र्णानोharirghṛṇāno जमदग्निनाjamadaghninā |

हिन्वानोhinvāno गोरधित्वचिghoradhitvaci ||

Urged forward o’er the ox-hide flows the Lovely One of tawny hue,
Lauded by Jamadagni's song.
9.65.25

परpra शुक्रासोśukrāso वयोजुवोvayojuvo हिन्वानासोhinvānāso नna सप्तयःsaptayaḥ |

शरीणानाप्सुśrīṇānāapsu मर्ञ्जतmṛñjata ||

Like horses urged to speed, the drops, bright, stirring vital power, when blent
With milk, are beautified in streams.
9.65.26

तंtaṃ तवाtvā सुतेष्वाभुवोsuteṣvābhuvo हिन्विरेhinvire देवतातयेdevatātaye |

सsa पवस्वानयाpavasvānayā रुचाrucā ||

So they who toil with juices send thee forward for the Gods’ repast:
So with this splendour flow thou on.
9.65.27

आā तेte दक्षंdakṣaṃ मयोभुवंmayobhuvaṃ वह्निमद्याvahnimadyā वर्णीमहेvṛṇīmahe |

पान्तमापुरुस्प्र्हमpāntamāpuruspṛham ||

We choose to-day that chariot-steed of thine, the Strong, that brings us bliss,
The Guardian, the desire of all,
9.65.28

आā मन्द्रमाmandramā वरेण्यमाvareṇyamā विप्रमाvipramā मनीषिणमmanīṣiṇam |

पान्तमाpāntamā पुरुस्प्र्हमpuruspṛham ||

The Excellent, the Gladdener, the Sage with heart that understands,
The Guardian, the desire of all;
9.65.29

आā रयिमाrayimā सुचेतुनमाsucetunamā सुक्रतोsukrato तनूष्वाtanūṣvā |

पान्तमाpāntamā पुरुस्प्र्हमpuruspṛham ||

Who for ourselves, O thou Most Wise, is wealth and fair intelligence,
The Guardian, the desire of all.
